The third edition of MICME, the Interactive Art Festival arrives with installations and events focused on interactive art: light art, video mapping, interactivity and sound art, created by students as their Final Major Projects of the master’s program. The festival highlights the role of multimedia, design, craft-making and technology as the core of the artistic experience, where poetics, innovation and experimentation converge.

"I especially liked seeing the projects that the students from Photography and Video did, because it's just a whole different world from what I study, which is design. For me, it's so interesting how they work with people, they film faces, they feel emotions, and it's just a whole different experience to work with something real, tangible that it's already given to you and you don't have to work from scratch. You have to think of a way to make something beautiful from what you already have. And it was interesting seeing it."

“Yo no había estado en una presentación donde pudiéramos ver los trabajos que han hecho los compañeros de 1er curso, y en mi caso de 2º, no había podido ver los trabajos que habían hecho de fotografía y vídeo tampoco.

Me gusta mucho saber cómo las distintas aristas por las que se mueve LABA VALENCIA, porque también me abre posibilidades a mí. Me inspira a proyectarme en otras cosas que no son necesariamente mi disciplina, pero que se pueden trasladar.

Me gustó principalmente ver la comparativa entre los trabajos de 1º y 2º, lo encontré súper interesante, en especial con la fotografía y el vídeo, que no sé tanto, entonces no lo pude visualizar también, pero con Diseño, el salto que hay de primero a segundo, que es algo que me sucedió a mí también... Fue genial. Me gustó mucho.

Estoy muy orgullosa de mis compañeros. Estoy muy inspirada por mis compañeros.”

"I had never been to a presentation where we could see the work done by 1st year students, and in my case as a 2nd year student, I hadn't been able to see the photography and video work either.

I really enjoy discovering the different sides of what goes on at LABA Valencia, because it also opens up possibilities for me. It inspires me to picture myself doing things that aren't necessarily my discipline, but that can be transferred across.

What I enjoyed most was seeing the comparison between first- and second-year work, I found it really interesting, especially in photography and video, which I don't know as much about, so I couldn't fully appreciate it.
But with Design, the leap from first to second year, which is something that happened to me too... it was amazing. I loved it.
I am so proud of my classmates. I am so inspired by my classmates."

Students of the Graphic Design and Digital Media degree created these editorial fanzines as part of a cross-disciplinary project combining two modules: research, critical thinking and design, developed alongside their lecturers.

Through their fanzines, students explored contemporary design from multiple perspectives, investigating new visual languages, emerging trends and the challenges defining the future of the creative industry. As part of the process, they interviewed industry professionals and channelled that research into unique editorial pieces, each accompanied by a poster, developed with a distinctive authorial, critical and contemporary voice.

“I think #AfterEffects was the course I was most excited about when I first enrolled at LABA. To be honest, I’ve always perceived animation as a kind of magic; “the soul in movement.” Motion graphics opened that door further for me, and being able to start right away in my first semester was extremely valuable. It’s crazy to see how far my skills have progressed in just a couple of months. After two semesters, I’ve already had the privilege of starting to work and produce professional pieces for real clients. The Final Major Projects of the Graphic Design and Digital Media degree of LABA Valencia are entering their final stretch. Over the past few months, the process has been structured around 3 milestones leading up to the final assessment: spaces for pause and reflection where students and tutors evaluate the direction of each proposal and define the next steps.

Last week we held the 3rd milestone, the last one before the final presentations at the end of June. Projects with their own identity, personal voices, and a level of excellence that shines through in many of the proposals. Congratulations to all the students, the lecturers, and the tutors who are supporting them so closely at such a decisive moment, for them and for all of us.

The Final Major Projects of the Photography & Video degreet @LabaValencia are presented across 4 milestones during the final months of the programme.

Each one is a key checkpoint that helps students, together with their tutors, stay on track and move the work forward.The 1st milestone marks the end of the research module, when students present their project proposal — the moment ideas take shape and we assess their viability. The 2nd milestone focuses on progress: students share initial outcomes and timelines, allowing us to recalibrate and ensure each project stays on course.

The 3rd milestone, the last checkpoint before final presentations at the end of June, took place yesterday. All projects are well advanced and on track. It has been a real joy to see them and to feel that this year’s Final Major Projects will be exceptional.

The culmination of three years of growth.
