Official acct for the union of journalists at @CascadePBSNews & @CascadePBS. We are repped by @PacNWGuild, part of the @NewsGuild of @CWAUnion. #NewsMatters
It’s difficult to find words to express how our unit is feeling right now, but we’ll take a stab at it: shocked, disappointed, angry. @CascadePBSNews’ choice to eliminate long-form written reporting is a massive loss for our community in a critical moment. https://t.co/852nQR1IP1
On Sept. 22, @CascadePBSNews announced it was cutting its News and Investigations teams, laying off 9 @newsguild journalists. Here’s how you can help: https://t.co/tfzjMpVr68
And if you want to help support journalists heading into an awful job market, please donate what you can to our GoFundMe. Thank you so much to everyone who has already contributed. ❤️ https://t.co/tfzjMpVr68
We’ve been bargaining with Cascade PBS since they announced layoffs last week, fighting for more severance for our members as they head into a brutal journalism job market. So far the company has refused to offer more than a week of severance beyond their contractual requirement.
Instead, CPBS is happy to save $ without cutting a dime of executive salaries. We’ve heard from lots of community members outraged that their donations are going to a $500K CEO paycheck. If you are too, please let the bosses know: https://t.co/aGohLjtmL9
Monday was a dark day for local news. But we can weather dark times when we fight together. And we’re going to fight like hell over the next few weeks to get these journalists what they deserve from @CascadePBSNews. https://t.co/852nQR1IP1

Nine Guild-represented journalists and their editors have also lost their livelihoods as a consequence of this decision. We are crowdfunding to support our affected colleagues, and you can help by donating to our layoff fund. https://t.co/852nQR1IP1
Thank you so much to everyone who stood by us in our contract fight. Now we’re asking for our community to stand by us in this critical moment for public media. Visit https://t.co/GYlldSMrzP to join the fight to sustain local journalism.

Carpenter Media Group is paying poverty wages and imposing story quotas that make quality local journalism impossible. Support the @EverettGuild in their fight for a fair contract. #savelocalnews
UPDATE: The Everett NewsGuild is calling on Herald subscribers to support their contract fight as Carpenter Media Group continues to offer low wages and tie meager raises to story quotas. (1/5)

The PNWNG wants to remind journalists of the need to take precautions while covering protests unfolding in Los Angeles and elsewhere. Journalists have already been targeted with rubber bullets and tear gas. Your safety comes first. Here are some resources: 🧵
This contract, which was the product of a tough, drawn out fight, wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless support of our community. To everyone who has shown up for us these past 9 months, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. When we fight together, we win.
We did it!!! Yesterday the unit voted unanimously to ratify a new contract that will immediately secure hardworking journalists at @CascadePBSNews an average raise of 6.76% and an average 18.3% wage increase over the course of the four-year contract.
Our lowest-paid members were making less than $64K, and at ratification no one in the unit will be making less than $70K. We also secured additional PTO, doubled severance and stronger worker protections that will make a tangible difference in our members’ lives.
