I grieve the passing of President Jeffrey R. Holland. Our relationship in education and Church service began more than 50 years ago. It was a long and loving relationship in the work of the Lord.
During my service as President of Brigham Young University, I had the privilege of inviting him—then a young scholar in his early 30s—to serve as Dean of Religious Education.
From the beginning, his influence strengthened the university’s sacred mission to unite spiritual purpose with academic excellence.
Over the last three decades as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, he lifted the weary, encouraged the faithful, and bore a powerful witness of the Savior—even through seasons of significant personal trials.
We honor his unwavering devotion, his steadfast witness of the Savior, and his inspired ability to strengthen faith and deepen understanding.
We thank our Father in Heaven for the blessing of shared service and for our united witness that Jesus Christ lives and directs His Church today.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement today about the health of President Jeffrey R. Holland:
President Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles is currently hospitalized for treatment related to ongoing health complications. He is receiving expert care and is with loved ones during this Christmas holiday. President @HollandJeffreyR and his family express gratitude for the many prayers offered on his behalf and extend greetings of faith and peace during this season that commemorates the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
The latest wave of updates to the “General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” includes an adjustment to a portion about editions and translations of the Holy Bible.
The handbook notes that “generally, members should use a preferred or Church-published edition of the Bible in Church classes and meetings.” In English, that is the King James Version.
The adjusted handbook section also points to examples of English Bible translations that members can consider as they seek to better understand the teachings of the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament.

The funeral of Russell M. Nelson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was held today, Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. President Dallin H. Oaks and Elder Henry B. Eyring, who served as President Nelson’s counselors, joined two of the prophet’s 10 children — daughter Laurie N. Marsh and son Russell M. Nelson Jr. — and Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson to pay tribute to the prophet’s life and teachings.
Elder Quentin L. Cook (@CookQuentinL) of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles closed out the Saturday afternoon session of the 195th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, talking about the recent surge in converts to the Church.
“In the last 36 months, nearly 900,000 converts have joined the Church. These converts constitute approximately 5% of the total Church membership,” he shared. “In the first six months of this year, conversions have risen by more than 20% over the previous year in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America. In North America, we have seen a 17% increase.”
He added that these numbers are signs that the gospel of Jesus Christ is touching hearts and changing lives.

A tragic act of violence occurred today at a chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan. During Sunday worship services a gunman opened fire, and early reports indicate that multiple individuals were injured. We ask for cooperation with local authorities as details become available.
The Church is in communication with local law enforcement as the investigation continues and as we receive updates on the condition of those affected. We offer thanks to the emergency responders who are assisting victims and families.
We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers and concern from so many people around the world. In moments of sorrow and uncertainty, we find strength and comfort through our faith in Jesus Christ. Places of worship are meant to be sanctuaries of peacemaking, prayer and connection. We pray for peace and healing for all involved.

I’m confident @WSJ would never run a hit piece on the Catholic Church featuring a photo of defiant ex-Catholics desecrating the Eucharist
For that very reason, I’m stunned and disappointed that @WSJ did the equivalent of that, but against the @Ch_JesusChrist#NotCoolWSJ

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the site and rendering for the Chihuahua Mexico Temple. A rendering has also been released for the Buenos Aires City Center Argentina Temple.
The Chihuahua Mexico Temple will be built on a 5.87-acre site located at the corner of Avenida de la Cantera and Avenida Real Escondido, Reserva Territorial la Hacienda, Chihuahua, Chihuahua, 31216. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 19,000 square feet. This will be the state’s third house of the Lord.
The ceremonies conducted inside each temple teach about the purpose of life and unite families, both past and present. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints promise to keep God’s commandments, support His work, live the higher law that Christ taught while on earth, remain chaste and dedicate their lives to building the Church of Christ.
