Tech minded, autodidactic, misanthropic geek. I read, write, think, cook, build, BBQ, code, tweak, and try a constant stream of hobbies as they catch interest.
@SpaceBoffin @MerriamWebster In most cases, 'data' is usually used more as a shorthand for 'data set'. This also manifests in the way 'data point' has become much more common than 'datum', as it ties back to a single point or item from the data set.
@SpaceBoffin @MerriamWebster I'm going to disagree (strongly) on that one. Particularly in the technical world, although AP style also agrees, 'data' is a collective noun. It takes the singular when treated as a unit, and plural when referring to individual items.
@LKNBoneDoc @AdamKinzinger Yep, exactly. Came to say the same thing. Most nutritional (and related) studies are not based on "data" as most people expect and understand it; they're based on a fictional approximation of vaguely remembered data. The quality is similar to telling time by looking at the sun.
@AdamKinzinger These kinds of nutritional studies should be taken with a serious grain (block) of salt. These longitudinal studies use self-reported data from questionnaires. They're one (small) step above useless.
Want proof? Tell me what you ate last week.
Now, imagine studying that "data".
Our Founders believed that for this experiment to work, the people needed to stay educated, we needed to stay informed. We the people aren’t doing that.👇
@audible_com That's still 2 hours away... Very frustrating for those of us with books in our shopping carts and feeling like Audible's mistake is screwing us over...
@audible_com Um... you say "Sale ends today", but the link and sale page say "Ends 5/12/24? Also, looks like someone screwed up something, as the sale page still says it's active and that "Sale ends May 12, 2024 at 11:59 P.M. PT (US).". However, prices are no longer showing sale...
Cable companies wonder why everyone is #CordCutting! I've been a @DIRECTV customer for 7 years; my price has increased more in 2023 *alone* than it did in six years from 2017-2022. You guys are ridiculous!
On the plus side, canceling service will save me hundreds/year so thanks!
Cable price insanity: @DIRECTV Edition
Price at each month, my Base Package:
- Jan: $69
- Feb: $79
- May: $89
- Nov: $99
My service plan didn't change during 2023. This is straight price hikes. 3 price increases within ONE YEAR. 30% ($360!) price increase in one year. #cordcutter
@DonJRobertson A few possible scenarios...
- Some willfully ignorant people will interpret anything that comes to them in a way so as to reinforce their beliefs rather than consider that they may be wrong.
- Perhaps someone gave him a copy to help him accept the consequences of his actions.
🤷♂️
Just came across one of the most ridiculous @Kickstarter projects I've seen: the #SpunSpoon (https://t.co/AJAWhULz3t). People come up with the craziest ideas! Reminder: Just because something can be done doesn't mean it should!
Also, I'm in for two SpunSpoons. And a SpunSpork.
You know what everyone "loves" @StreamOnMax? When you notify us about "changes to your features" when you actually mean, "we're screwing you over by taking way features while still charging you the same amount" so that we can charge more for the features you used to get. #ripoff
@wirecutter@adamdicarlo We should turn off "Do Not Track". . . "in the short term" to fix your broken comment section?
It's been 3 years and this is still an issue. Are you ever going to fix this? 🤨
@LPNational Are you now going out of your way to make Libertarians and the Libertarian Party look ridiculous? 20 years as a registered Libertarian and now I'm a member of the clown party. 🤨🤦♂️ #MisesCaucusIdiocy
This is more than a little concerning. This also further highlights the desperate need for a federal data privacy law to protect people.

@Liberty_Briefs @MILibertarians@MIGOP@LPCO Please stop with the dumb false dichotomy. There are lots of much better options to improve things that don't involve selling out your integrity and principles to the GOP.
Pushing for #RankedChoiceVoting, campaign finance reform, redistricting reform... so many better options.
