my response
for some time
it is good to be ready
with an appropriate reply
one both explanatory and polite
thus, I have been workshopping

and I can confidently say
when asked
“why are you wearing a mask”
the best reply
is to cough loudly.

of the music festival
that they may come down
with a case of “festival flu”
the cold and flu symptoms of which
are due supposedly
to the site’s hot and dusty conditions
and I think to myself:
“festival flu”
so I guess that’s what
we’re calling it now.

is officially behind us
and as for the virus
that too is behind us
though it is also
to the left of us
to the right of us
and ahead of us.
