@Nappy_Narcissus The MYTH out there is that soap will ruin the seasoning on a cast iron skillet. The Fact is that LYE is what ruins your seasoning and as long as you are not using a soap with Sodium Chloride in it you will be totally fine!
@Grizzmama1 @MemphisRandl Beautiful that is a vintage @LodgeCastIron pre 1960s! Probably closer to 1940s because it doesn’t have the SK marking on it! Lodge was the only manufacturer to put in the three notches in the heat ring. You’ve got yourself one of the best iron cook pieces that was ever made!
Actually, cast iron is not the greatest at heating evenly! The thermal conductivity is around a quarter that of an aluminum pan. However cast iron has a very high volumetric heat capacity, which means that once it's hot, it stays hot, and THAT is why it’s so good for searing meat
Dish 👏 soap👏 does 👏 not 👏 hurt 👏 your 👏 CAST👏 IRON 👏
This is a major myth. The degreasing properties of dish soap will not hurt your seasoning, unless you are seasoning wrong. The danger to your seasoning comes from lye, which isn’t in most dish soaps. #castirontips
