Really excited to be participating in #sciartportfolioweek for the first time! My portfolio is slowly growing and I am hoping that by this time next year I will have a lot more projects to share. Always available for a chat if you'd like to collaborate!😊 #scicomm#sciart
Irene and Mike are two of our amazing partners, and co-authors of the upcoming leaflet “Behind #RheumatoidArthritis”. By participating in the development of this leaflet, Irene and Mike ensured our content was relevant and helpful for people who have been diagnosed with RA. (1/5)
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease that is estimated to affect around 1% of the UK population. It is caused by a malfunction of the immune system, which instead of protecting the body against danger starts attacking its own healthy joints. (🧵1/4) #rheumatoidarthritis
Marion is a member of the Musculoskeletal Patient Involvement Panel and she shared her thoughts about our #osteoarthritis leaflet. It is lovely to hear that our project can make a difference in people's lives, and contribute to a better understanding of this disease!
The leaflet has been published and advertised through social medial platforms and distributed at patient insight events and clinical settings such as GP surgeries. An electronic version is currently available online at https://t.co/zpFy8fclXm (5/5)
Osteoarthritis has historically been described as a disease of “wear and tear”, however, this idea is outdated. Studies have shown that OA results from a collection of events within the joint that actively destroy the joint tissues, leading to pain and disability. (🧵1/5)
Our project is driven by a multidisciplinary team of scientists at the University of Liverpool. Together, we aim to bring awareness to different musculoskeletal diseases and the biological mechanisms behind them. Learn more about us: (🧵1/5)
It is estimated that a third of the UK population lives with a musculoskeletal disease. The term "musculoskeletal" refers to the locomotor system, which includes bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and some soft tissues. 🧵1/4
Hello, and welcome!
"Behind Disease" is a project created by academics at @LivUni and funded by @CIMA_Ageing and @wellcometrust. Our goal is to improve public understanding of the biology behind musculoskeletal diseases.
