The moral of this story is a bitter one for any young, wide-eyed artist: do not send your ideas to large (and supposedly honorable) companies until you are officially hired and your intellectual labor is formally purchased.
With that, I take my bow.Yours,Shadow Cat :) @elonmusk

Inspiration or Theft?
A story about how a major indie company took ideas from a little guy.
Back in 2018, I was a young, wide-eyed illustrator who loved to draw and play Overwatch.
But this situation is a classic case of the back-of-the-classroom plea: "You can use my homework for ideas, just don't copy it word for word."
This entire experience drained my desire to both draw and play Overwatch.
I'm not speaking of minor details, like Brigitte's shield—a coincidence, perhaps, given her release followed my submission by a mere month. And yes, I acknowledge I used the word "inspire" in my cover letter.
Then came Baptiste, introduced with a passive high-jump ability I had designed (Image 6). And the pièce de résistance: the introduction of a namesake character bearing a striking resemblance to my own creation (Image 7).
You can imagine my astonishment, then, when subsequent game updates began to feel eerily familiar. Torbjörn's ultimate ability was reworked into the very one I had conceived for my character, Freya (Image 5).
So, what was the consequence of my rejected application? I accepted their verdict—my talents, it seemed, were not yet polished for their vacancies. I continued to draw and play Overwatch, my passion undimmed.
Naturally, Blizzard got back to me. They replied that they had no ability or desire to hire me (Image 4). They did, however, seem to have the desire to dismantle my character and scatter my ideas across their other heroes.
So, what happened next?
Undeterred, I decided to create my own opportunity. I designed a concept for a "future" hero (Image 1) and attached a heartfelt cover letter (Image 2). Crucially, all of this was created in February 2018 (Image 3).
Among the usual emails about Blizzard sales and promotions, I also received job opening alerts. Though I was eager to apply for an entry-level concept artist position, none were available at the time.
