I agree with Wald's assessment - improvements in recording quality and complexity, as well as speaker quality make recorded versions of songs a higher quality than are difficult to reproduce by cover bands(or even the original musicians playing live) #POPMUSW22
@ThisModernLuke I agree completely. There are numerous instances of covers which are both critically praised & widely popular. It is the lack of emotion which makes this music unliked in hindsight #POPMUSW22
The reason the music is considered "schlock" is due to the lack of originality. It's much less creative to alter an already popular song than it is to create one from scratch. Regardless, plenty of people still listened to it, so it provided some value. #POPMUSW22
Prior to music streaming there was a much smaller selection of music to listen to - now the catalogue of thousands of artist/bands are stored in one place. The increased selection of music exposes people tto more varied types of music #POPMUSW22
There are many cases of media creating needs that business later fills (i.e. bonkers beauty standards & diet pills). The music industry produces simple music - as it's accessible by more people. Not really a bad thing, as sometimes there's a beauty in the simplicity. #POPMUSW22
