With student A.I. use/abuse now ubiquitous, professors and teachers are killing off take-home essays and papers. Students are writing inside the classroom, often by hand.
It's part of the big rethink happening on tech and learning. My new report here:

The U.S. Department of Education is reviewing the recent executive order regarding the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. The PSLF Program is not changing today, and borrowers do not need to take any action. To learn more about the current program requirements, see your progress and payment counts, or submit a PSLF form, visit https://t.co/A319NIjyCP.
I was in NC doing get out the vote. Lots of independents who are undecided, making up their minds. Conversations now are critical. If you have time in the next 8 days to do door knocking in a swing state - make a plan. You can be the difference in this close race. It really matters.
What can be done to help students from mixed status families get through the FAFSA? Today, @NCANetwork offered recs on the FSA ID process for people without SSNs. Most important: create a secure portal for identity documents and add call center capacity. https://t.co/rvjgg03Xmb
Important re: FAFSA right now is that K-12 doesn't have student-level data yet. FAFSAs haven't been processed so states can't flow FAFSA data to K-12 districts/schools.
Very possible most district/school leaders are flying blind and do not realize how far behind we are.
🥳 Congrats to California for moving your state financial aid deadline back to April 2, 2024! This allows students time to complete the #FAFSA since it will not be released until December this year.
. @FAFSA announced today that the new #BetterFAFSA will be delayed until December 2023. Also included in the announcement:
➡️#PellGrant look up tables to be released in May
➡️New FAFSA preview available in July
➡️FAFSA estimator available early fall

The notion that financial aid covers the cost of college is, unfortunately, a fallacy. Our new analysis finds an average unmet need of more than $3,200 in 44 states for Pell recipients at 4 year public colleges. Explore the national and state data here: https://t.co/thSRZJudo8.
The truth about a winning #CALeg or #CABudget campaign:
You could propose the most thoughtful, evidence-based, data-driven policy in the world.
It's only one (small) slice.

Some things we're excited to see on @WhiteHouse's strategy for #WHConfHungerHealth:
-Helping gov't agencies do cross-benefit enrollment & targeted outreach
-Updating eligibility for #SNAP
-Working w/ healthcare orgs to connect people to benefits

Only 7% of filers expected to be subject to FAFSA verification this cycle, announced @FSACOO last week at #NCAN2022.“We will keep listening and learning.” @rayalq https://t.co/nSshD0T7zZ
There’s a lot of interest in universal FAFSA policies these days, so for @NCANetwork I took a look at the impacts on FAFSA completion in the first year of implementation in AL, IL, LA, and TX.
More evidence needed/welcome on enrollment impacts though!

NCAN has been a “stalwart supporter” of lowering FAFSA verification rates, says @FSACOO. Explains that in recent years, verification rates have gone down thanks to machine learning model, from 30% to 22% to 18% to 10%. Starting 10/1, expect to verify only 7% of filers. #NCAN2022
