"We've made ourselves irrelevent..." the now late Alex Younger on the effect of Brexit. We are living through a time when the smart people are away from public space. He was an exception.
Some kind of serious disconnect here… either he knew but didn’t care or simply ignored the constantly repeated fact that we would be forced to drop standards for a US deal when Lowe supported Brexit… night follows day it was so bleeding obvious!!
I was strolling through the local Christmas Market last night.
The air smelled of Glühwein and regulatory negligence.
I was standing near the carousel when a small girl, perhaps eight years old, approached me with a wicker basket.
"Hallo!" she chirped. "Would you like to buy a homemade Christmas cookie? Only €2.50!"
She held up a star-shaped cookie with questionable icing.
I did not smile. I leaned down to her eye level.
"Young citizen," I asked calmly. "Is that €2.50 gross or net?"
She blinked. "It's... just two fifty."
I stood up.
"You are engaging in commercial activity without displaying prices inclusive of VAT."
"Are you registered as a Small Business?
She started to back away. "My mommy made them at home..."
"Aha!" I exclaimed. "At home! In an uncertified kitchen!"
"Do you possess a Health Certificate according to § 43 of the Infection Protection Act?"
She began to cry.
Tears are not a substitute for a valid trade license.
The illegal mobile vending operation was liquidated immediately.
Her mother arrived and screamed at me for ruining Christmas.
I told her as they filled out the paperwork: "Hygiene safety knows no season."
The market is safer now.
You are welcome. 🇪🇺
They knew: Declassified files prove Stormont understood Lough Neagh’s pollution decades ago – but then made it worse. Stormont explicitly knew that intensive agriculture was killing our waterways, but then used public money to encourage more factory farms.

In a time of anger, blame and selfishness, this man raised his voice for compassion towards those so desperate as to risk their lives in small boats:
“I think it is very sad that we have very little care for other people.
We are all humans.”
Applaud him.
Reform UK has recorded the largest ever single donation from a living person in UK political history.
Deputy Political Editor @SamCoatesSky explains why he has two names and who he has donated to in the past.
‘I have not a political reason but a highly personal reason [for speaking out]. I do not want to see my school bully become prime minister’
Huge kudos to @PeterEttedgui. This is a hugely powerful & sobering interview.
Jonathan Gullis has defected to Reform.
Here he is saying there’s not a ‘cats hell in chance will I be defecting, for me it takes courage of conviction and belief to stay within something & fight for what you believe in’
He then calls chief whip Lee Anderson a liar.
