Direct Torque Control (DTC) has been at the core of ABB drives for decades—and it continues to set the benchmark. By controlling motor flux and torque directly, DTC delivers instant, razor‑accurate response to real load demands.

What makes it unbeatable:

• No feedback devices needed in 95% of applications
• Full torque at zero speed
• Ultra‑precise torque and speed control
• Excellent linearity and accuracy
• Real‑time switching optimization — no fixed frequency, no wasted energy

DTC isn’t just a control method. It’s a performance advantage.

UL 508A Tip: Using improperly sized branch circuit protection will cause industrial control panels to fail UL 508A inspection.

The UL 508A standard requires that branch circuits within industrial control panels be provided with overcurrent protection. The devices must be sized appropriately to properly protect the connected equipment and conductors.

Proper sizing requires devices to have sufficient ampere ratings to safely handle the circuit’s maximum current. If a current protection device is undersized it can result in nuisance tripping that will shut down equipment and cost unwanted downtime.

Moreover, using oversized branch circuit protection can lead to injuries or property damage with resulting liability issues, component damage that is costly to repair or replace, or lost revenue due to unplanned downtime in the machinery or process.

A control panel supplier that works well for prototypes may not be the right manufacturing partner when data center equipment demand begins to scale.

Before panel production becomes a constraint, consider whether your partner can scale volume while maintaining quality, consistency and delivery.

Cates supports data center cooling OEMs from initial production through recurring, higher-volume programs.

UL 508A Tip: The wrong power supply can lead to a failed panel inspection.

Some components require a Class 2, SELV, or PELV power supply. Using a power supply that does not meet the classification required by the connected component can create several situations that lead to UL inspection failure.

Always verify the component’s certification and installation requirements before selecting the power supply.

UL 508A Tip: Industrial control panels with components used in a manner inconsistent with manufacturer recommendations will fail UL 508A inspection.

A UL Listed component doesn't guarantee compliance on its own. Always refer to the component manual and follow the manufacturer's instructions for circuit protection, wiring, and installation rules. Skipping these details can lead to safety risks and failed inspections.

Prevent delays by building panels with these details in mind the first time.

UL 508A Tip:
A UL Listed component isn't automatically approved for use in an industrial control panel.
Always verify the component is Listed or Recognized for industrial control panel use before specifying it.
Small design decisions can prevent major inspection delays.
