A happy conclusion to the story of an injured hawk rescued by a Burnaby Frontline officer back in June. After being treated by @OWLRehab, the hawk was ready to soar again this fall. Media Relations Cpl. Laura Hirst was invited to help welcome the hawk back to Burnaby skies.

HMCS Corner Brook (SSK 878) is a Victoria-class diesel-electric attack submarine operated by the Royal Canadian Navy. Here’s a quick rundown:
Origins & Service
•Originally built for the British Royal Navy as HMS Ursula (S42) and commissioned in 1992.
•Decommissioned by the UK in 1994, then acquired by Canada in 1998 and renamed HMCS Corner Brook, after the town in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Incidents & Maintenance
•In June 2011, Corner Brook struck the ocean floor during an exercise off Vancouver Island, suffering significant damage.
•This led to a long refit period beginning in 2014, involving structural repairs and upgrades.
•While in drydock at CFB Esquimalt in April 2019, a fire broke out onboard. It was contained but delayed the sub’s return to service.
Status
•As of now, it has spent more time in refit and repair than in operational service.
•The sub is expected to return to active duty, but it’s also part of the aging Victoria-class fleet, which Canada is planning to replace.
Future Plans
•In July 2024, Canada announced plans to acquire up to 12 new conventionally powered submarines with under-ice capability as part of the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project, aimed at replacing subs like HMCS Corner Brook.
If you saw “EST À QUAI,” that’s French for “is docked” or “is alongside the quay,” meaning the sub is currently in port, not at sea.
I have the most exciting news. 🥰my most favourite bald eagle nest that I watch in Delta BC 🇨🇦 is “tall trees nest” - there was no one home last week - but look!! Someone is sitting in the nest! Yay!! And it looks like maybe, just maybe, she’s incubating eggs! Yay!! 18 Mar 2025
