Someone's done a nice tidy up job of all the fly tipping at this hot-spot in #se6#catford. Hopefully @EnviroLewisham will come and collect the pile sitting outside 232 Brownhill Road
@CllrAl@EsmeKilsby@JanetDaby@EnviroLewisham@LewishamCouncil A problem we have is that we don't see the situation improving. Rather we see the measures used being far from adequate. I don't know what the solution is but the status quo is difficult to accept. Does @LewishamCouncil consult with other councils on alternative approaches?
@CllrAl@EsmeKilsby@JanetDaby@EnviroLewisham@LewishamCouncil Though I don't doubt that the problem has been exacerbated by the pandemic, this is not a new problem for the area. So I'm still searching for an answer - what's different in our borough?
@CllrAl@EsmeKilsby@JanetDaby@EnviroLewisham@LewishamCouncil Something that puzzles me is what the difference is between Catford/Lewisham and other boroughs who don't have this problem? Is it a cultural thing? A council budget thing? Why are people fly tipping in the first place?
@CllrAl@catford I share my voice as a concerned resident of a community I love being part of. Reactive reporting will not prevent fly tipping. Many other councils run schemes that have reduced fly tipping by "increasing awareness and encouraging reporting" e.g. Harborough https://t.co/PbCcifeCTZ
Nice reply from the council. FYI @catford residents - the council's response to fly tipping to keep your eyes peeled. Thanks @CllrAl#se6#lewisham#catford
@CatfordCleanup@JanetDaby@EnviroLewisham@LewishamCouncil Are you just going to winge or do something proactive. If you know where regular places are then keep watch and challenge the tippers, after all it is the public not that council thats doing the dumping. THERE IS NO MONEY.
@CllrAl@catford I'm actively taking to the waste management department at the council trying to assist directly. More than most, I'd argue. I merely use this platform to chronicle fly tipping and waste on our streets and attempt to expose it to people who have influence, like our MP.
@CllrAl@catford What is a Councillor if not a member of the council? Tell you what, I'll update my profile if you join me for a fly tipping stake out on the streets of #catford
@CllrAl@JanetDaby@EnviroLewisham@LewishamCouncil Keep watch - that's not the solution. Also the "hot spots" cover about 3 square miles, and that's only round where I live! Do you suggest I pitch a tent and get my binoculars ready to apprehend fly tippers? The council need a pro active solution. Picking it up is not enough.
@JacCook1@JanetDaby@EnviroLewisham@LewishamCouncil I log them and I email the lady at the council, daily. The app is pathetic and regularly takes over a month to have things collected. My cause isn't to have them pick it up but to highlight how much there is to the council and (more importantly) the MP, who doesn't do anything.
@matthewjduffy@JanetDaby@EnviroLewisham@LewishamCouncil This post is the least of it. Catford has been completely overrun by fly tipping. The council's response is that funding is inadequate and there's nothing more they can do to be proactive. It just isn't good enough. Why should we have to live in a shit hole? Answer: we shouldn't.
