In the Canary Islands, the Holy Father affirmed the work of Catholic ministries that care for migrants and immigrants. Here in the U.S., @nspimentel in the @CatholicRGV and countless others across our country have “welcomed the stranger” (Mt. 25:35) as an encounter with Christ.
Pope Leo XIV recently told Catholic Extension Society in our meeting with him that he encourages “the pastoral care you are offering to the disadvantaged, as well as to the many immigrant families in the United States. ...
Last night the Knicks beat the Spurs in the largest comeback victory in NBA Finals history. Pope Leo made a comment about basketball last weekend in Spain. The Holy Father reminds us that sports can not only bring out the best of human virtues, but also sports bring us together!
As the World Cup commences tomorrow in Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca, 6 billion people (almost 75% of humanity) are expected to watch the games in the coming weeks. Let’s be mindful of Pope Leo’s words last weekend in Spain:

Through our Puerto Rico Recovery Program, two dozen heavily damaged Catholic schools are currently in the architectural design phase, set to conclude later this year, allowing them to begin construction in the next several months!
Rebuilding these badly damaged Catholic schools will bring hope not just to Catholic students, but all people of the island. Among the schools set to be rebuilt is Holy Rosary School in Vega Baja, which has been in shambles since 2017.
One week after our private audience with him, Pope Leo XIV released his first papal encyclical, "Magnifica humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence." At the heart of the pope's encyclical was the affirmation of the uniqueness of humans.
This Memorial Day, join us in prayer for the repose of the souls of all those who sacrificed their lives for our country. This Extension magazine cover from 1945 commemorates the chaplains and the fallen and wounded servicemen of WWII. May God bless them and all who have served.
