OK, so phases 1 & 2 of the annual Seat61 European Timetable update are completed. Which pretty much means the site is usable for planning trips in 2024...

Damaged by a derailed freight train in August, the Gotthard Base Tunnel was originally expected to resume normal service from January 2024.
It could now be September. 7 km of trackbed needs complete replacement.

Specifically looking for the early EC 51, i.e., 6:28 Basel to Milan Dec. 17. Showing as sold out but that's not possible (not for so many trains on so many days). I can't take a later one as onward travel is already booked with a group.

Dear @seatsixtyone, do you know why it's not possible to buy tickets for many trains between Basel/Zürich & Milan for after (and partly before) the timetable change? Is the change not completely implemented yet, or disturbances Domodossola-Milan or Gotthard tunnel? Thank you!

P.S. results for Basel-Milano & vice versa on Trenitalia include connection that assumes a portal between Steinen near Arth-Goldau & Steinen, Baden Württemberg. It's one of the fastest and cheapest connections, on sale since summer. I wonder how many tourists have been stranded?

@seatsixtyone I found out: Nothing to do with the Lötchberg Tunnel itself but that there is construction on the line between Domodossola and Milan starting on Monday. Bad timing...

@seatsixtyone Strangely the Basel - Milan connections seem also to be running through Arth-Goldau rather than through the Lötschberg tunnel between Thun and Visp. Any idea why?

@archer_rs The rules in Europe allow blades up to 6cm long, and most Swiss Army knives are shorter than this. So a bit surprising but not technically against the rules.

@seatsixtyone Tickets opened today, and I've booked my class daytrip Vienna--> Brno (multiple regular bookings rather than group bookings). I couldn't resist the creeping 1€ more for better service, and booked them all in Business class, for 9,20€ pp each way. Pretty great! Thanks again!

@seatsixtyone Hum, I can see this connection for June 7th, but not yet for the 21st (only buses). I guess here there is a timetable issue that will be resolved, rather than a bus replacement. As it's a group I'll email their group services and ask anyway. Thank you again!
