Had a few requests to learn more about this since yesterday - if you’d like to know about how we can support your teaching of KS3-4 English with classical resources, do DM me or Justine with your email 👍
@HuntingEnglish @ebiThomasJ How interesting! We @ClassicsNorth@classicsforall@Durham_Classics@CatherineRozier have developed a resource to support secondary school English teaching. It outlines the key plots and allusions one finds in core English texts that are based on or derived from Classical sources
Our Plan To Rebuild: On leaving Troy after the War.
Heroes will be allowed to leave Troy if they are liked by a female goddess. Heroes whose names begin with an A will not be allowed to leave Troy unless the A is followed by a G in which case you will see your wife again.
Troubled by this allusion in #themirrorandthelight - would learned Englishmen of 1536 use ”et in Arcadia ego” in conversation? I know what it means or could mean but troubled by its unclear provenance pre-17th c!
CfA are doing so much great stuff at the moment to support schools, teachers and pupils - whether you teach classical subjects, or want to use your lockdown time to explore how classics could be your new bff, get in touch!
I had been due to present on this topic at the @DurhamCouncil primary English schools meeting a few weeks ago, so this is a brilliant resource to share with those schools who were thwarted by #lockdown - thank you @classicsforall !!
English is a fiendish language to master, but understanding its roots and history can help. @classicsforall provides free CPD and resources so your school can bring these benefits to your students, even during school closure.
