75 days π
For 75 days, AthenaπΎπΎ has watched other dogs leave. And every night, AthenaπΎπΎ has gone back to sleep wondering when it will be her turn.
The thing is, we don't understand it.
AthenaπΎπΎ is everything people say they want.
She's funny. She's adventurous. She's ridiculously affectionate. She'll happily join you for a hike, a car ride, a lazy Sunday on the couch, or a game of tug that somehow becomes the most important event of her day.
She loves her people with her whole heart.
And that's what makes this so hard.
Because AthenaπΎπΎ has been ready.
Ready for a family. Ready for a couch. Ready for a life that doesn't come with shelter walls. Ready for someone to choose her.
Instead, she's spent 75 days waiting.
Seventy-five days isn't the longest stay we've ever had.
But it's 75 days longer than a dog like AthenaπΎπΎ should have to wait.
Somewhere out there is the person she's been saving all that love for.
We'd really like them to hurry up and find her.
And remember that thanks to Friends of King William Animal Shelter, Athena'sπΎπΎ adoptionβ€οΈ fee is fully sponsored through June 30!

POLKA β A027222
2-year-old male Pit Bull
Polka is a friendly, energetic boy who enjoys meeting new people. He has a playful personality and would thrive in an active home where he can get plenty of exercise and attention. During his assessment, he showed no signs of dog reactivity, making him a great candidate for meet-and-greets with potential canine companions.

MIAMI-DADE SHELTER IS A SLAUGHTER HOUSE!!πππ
His name WAS OTTO #A2796899 He survived on the streets with a massive tumor hanging near his rectum, but despite everything he had endured, he was described as happy, sweet, and full of life. He was still wagging his tail. He was still trusting people. He was still alive.
Then everything changed.
On June 18, a so-called βno killβ shelter called Miami-Dade Animal Services was notified and picked Otto up. He was transported to the βno killβ shelter and placed I donβt kennel hidden away in the back. No one knew he existed. There was no public plea. No desperate call for a rescue. No chance for the people who would have fought for him to even know he existed.
Today 6/23 Otto was killed.
Itβs a heartbreaking reality when a dog is actually safer surviving on the streets than entering a shelter that never gives him the opportunity to be seen. Otto deserved medical care. He deserved compassion. He deserved the chance for a rescue to step forward.
Instead, his story ended before it ever had the chance to begin.
Ottoβs life mattered. His tumor did not define him. His worth was never determined by the care he needed. He was a sweet, living soul who deserved an advocate, a chance, and a future.
Rest easy, Otto. You should have been given the opportunity to know what it felt like to be loved and saved. You deserved so much more.
