@DrBradJohnson Most insidious bullying I have experienced has been in the past 5 years as an admin. Bullying is coming from a few long time teachers in the district with the assist of a couple school board members. I am often second guessed and criticized. It gets hard always playing defense.
Grandkid performed in "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!" Made me question: Is the presumption on the "Herdmans" in our school that they make everything worse or do we allow them to be part of/reason for having the "Best School" ever.
Administrators don’t usually get to have the same “light bulb moments” that teachers have with kids in their class. Their rewarding moments are when they can support a teacher… when we can do something to lighten their load and make their tough job a little easier.
@mikesmithlive Like many ‘things’ in schools, we can’t keep doing what we’ve always done and expect different results. Kids are everything. Literally they mean existence for the world. Safety and trust are nonnegotiables in the education conversation.
Being an instructional leader doesn’t always mean you are providing expertise in teaching and learning. Sometimes… it just means you are helping to shape the conditions in which your teachers can thrive. Sometimes, it’s just about building the right culture.
@edutopia As a teacher, we model what we expect from students. I am willing to be open and "model" my vulnerability so students can feel safer sharing their vulnerability with me. I can't expect my students to go further than I am willing to go myself.
@TheWeirdTeacher Teaching HS math, I make the connection between a foundation/vasemebt and a building. A basement without a building is just a hole in the ground, but a building without a foundation collapses. I help you lay the foundation. What building is built is up to you.
