Why are we in constant assessment mode. How about teaching first. Give explicit instruction. Give several examples. Give time to practice and make mistakes. Provide differentiated support for all students to access.
There are no pure grading policies. There are always subjective elements and arbitrary elements to every grading policy. How does your grading policy serve your teaching effectiveness. Not very much? Change it.
“F” grades don’t mean you have high expectations, it means your students aren’t learning. Why aren’t they learning? Maybe they just sit there and don’t want to work. Why? Is the judgement on them? The situation?
Students go to school to learn, grow, and develop their characters and interests. They don’t go to school to be evaluated. Stop making your classroom about your grading policies. 🛑
