After more than two years in Israeli detention, the first photo of Palestinian journalist Mohammed Arab emerged on Monday.

Israeli forces seized Arab from Gaza’s Al-Shifa Medical Complex on March 18, 2024. “They are calling on us using the quadcopters. Pray for me, and take care of the children,” Arab told his wife Wafaa Abu Al-Laban in their final conversation.

“Mohammed’s health is very, very poor,” she told Drop Site’s Abdel Qader Sabbah. Arab was subjected to severe abuse at Sde Teiman and forced to remain on his knees for prolonged periods, causing a slipped disc and serious back problems. His eyesight also deteriorated after his glasses were taken away, his lawyer said.

After more than two years in detention, Arab told his lawyer that seeing his own face had become a dream. “I just want to know what I look like,” he said. A petition had to be filed to obtain underwear and a mirror for him.

When Abu Al-Laban finally received a photograph of her husband, she barely recognized him. “I saw someone else, someone far older than his age. Mohammed looked crushed and exhausted.”

Arab is one of around 40 Palestinian journalists currently detained by Israel, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Society, and is being held without charge or trial like many other journalists.

The last surviving commander of that uprising was a man named Marek Edelman. And in his old age, Edelman wrote to the Palestinian resistance and addressed them as fellow fighters — much to Israel’s annoyance. When he died, Poland gave him a state funeral, a fifteen-gun salute, the President gave the oration. Israel did not send the lowliest clerk at the Israeli Embassy. Edelman wasn’t a Zionist.
Edelman, who led the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising against the Nazis, described Gaza as a ghetto. I have used his comparison for years before October 2023. Two million people, most of them refugees or the children of refugees, sealed into a strip of land under blockade for 16 years, where the majority are children who have never once been allowed out. When I wrote “ghetto,” I meant a ghetto. My blog supported the Uprising just as I would have supported the slave uprisings of the 19th century. That is a political opinion. It was a political opinion on 7 October 2023, and it is a political opinion now.
And here is the crazy thing. Read section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2000 and ask what it would have made of the Warsaw Ghetto fighters. If this Act had existed in 1944, they could have been classified as terrorists. So could the French Resistance.’

This video is a great representative of how @JamesOKeefeIII is a liar and a bad person.

And why you should be very skeptical of any video he posts.

1)

The election workers followed the law.

When O’Keefe, impersonating a registered voter, asked to vote, the poll workers repeatedly asked for his identification.

He said he didn’t have identification and asked if he could still vote.

The poll workers told him yes, he could vote, but it must be a “questioned ballot” that goes into a security envelope.

It is NOT immediately counted. I’ll get to that later.

The election workers did the right thing. They followed the law.

This “questioned ballot” is called a “provisional ballot” in most other states. Provisional ballots are required by the federal Help America Vote Act (2002) section 302.

This is done so that no voter is mistakenly turned away (disenfranchised).

As mentioned, the “questioned ballot” goes into an envelope. The voter must provide identifying information on the ballot envelope and then seal the envelope.

The envelope is set aside until it is taken to a bipartisan board.

That bipartisan board uses information from the election office and from the voter to determine eligibility. If eligible, it is tabulated. If not eligible, it is kept in its sealed envelope.

This meant to preserve a voter’s right to vote, but it also protects against fraudulent vote attempts like the one O’Keefe contemplated.

O’Keefe of course knows this. Because he cites to both the state statute (15.15.215) and an August 10 social media post from the Alaska Division of Elections that includes this information.

But he ignores the information and omits it in his video.

O’Keefe did not expose an opportunity fraud. He did not expose unlawful conduct by election administrators.

He did, however, record some seemingly sweet, civically-minded older Americans working the election site who tried to help him with his alleged issue.

Those good Americans will now be seen by millions of Americans.

A handful of those viewers will harass the poll workers. One or two viewers might even make a a threat. And all the poll workers did was exactly the right thing as required by law.

While O’Keefe did not uncover unlawful conduct, he might have created unlawful conduct.

It is unlawful to be in a voting location without being a poll worker, a voter, or an otherwise-authorized person.

It is unlawful to impersonate another voter, even if you don’t actually cast a ballot. Alaska Stat. § 15.56.040(a)(1).

Fun times.

O’Keefe is doing all of this in the context of pressuring Lisa Murkowski to support the SAVE America Act.

But nothing O’Keefe did in the video would be changed as a result of the SAVE America Act.

If you are like most people and don’t follow the bond market, here’s what Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is doing in plain English:

The government needs to borrow money, and the more investors demand to be paid to lend us that money, the more expensive our $40+ trillion debt becomes. So Bessent is having the Treasury buy billions of dollars of government bonds. That pushes demand for those bonds up and can push their interest rates, or yields, down.

In other words: he’s trying to make the government’s borrowing costs look better without actually fixing the debt while Trump is stealing money allocated to other departments so he can stick gold-plated plastic shit all over the White House.

And Wall Street is already catching on.

These bond purchases are tiny compared with the size of the Treasury market. They can push rates around temporarily, but they can’t make $40+ trillion of debt disappear, fix the deficit or magically make the economy healthy. And here’s the part that’s hard to ignore: the expanded buybacks run through November 4, the day after the midterms.

This looks less like a solution and more like smoke and mirrors designed to make Trump’s economy look better before voters go to the polls.

The market can be nudged.

Reality can’t.

🟢 Senior Hamas official Basem Naim tells CNN that Board of Peace mediators and U.S. adviser Jared Kushner are asking Hamas to be “sensitive” to Benjamin Netanyahu’s political position ahead of Israel’s upcoming election over the already-agreed Gaza roadmap.

“It is not my duty as a Palestinian to take care of the sensitivity of the timing of the deal for Netanyahu,” Naim said.

“We have heard this from Mr. Kushner and the other members of the delegation, that you have to keep in mind that Netanyahu is now passing through a very delicate time.”

Naim said Israel has fulfilled none of its phase-one obligations, including on humanitarian aid and has escalated its massacres in Gaza since Hamas and the Board agreed on a roadmap covering weapons decommissioning and Israeli withdrawal.

“As a Palestinian, I am not in a position to pay the price from the bodies and blood and the lives of our people in order to secure the victory of Netanyahu’s election,” Naim said.
