2. Get promoted high enough to appear at Senate Estimates
3. Say something stupid enough to warrant public ridicule

Expect public ridicule.

Or rather, being crap at that job.

You could always choose private sector employment. Or decline the promotion to the level of your incompetence.

Celia Perkins had a base salary around $430k back in 2023-24. Adding super, and a few years indexation, would be well over a half-million package.

The idea that people like this are just turning up to a normal desk-job, and can opt-out of the hazards of public scrutiny and ridicule if their comments are stupid or embarrassing is just absurd.

That this clip is now going viral is a very fitting outcome. May no public servant ever ask again, and may the rest of our media spend more time combing through Senate hearings for clangers.
