In 2020, Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Russell Okung announced that half of his $13 million salary would be converted into bitcoin.

The NFL would not pay him directly in bitcoin. He had to use a third-party service who converted approximately $6.5 million of his salary into bitcoin.

The purchase occurred when bitcoin was around $27,000 per coin, resulting in roughly 240 bitcoin.

At today’s price, that amount of bitcoin would now be worth approximately $19,600,000.
