Hello friends.
I am happy to connect with you once again. Thank you for your messages and the support you have shown me I truly appreciate it, even though I cannot respond to everyone individually.
On July 22, 2024, the Puntland Intelligence and Security Agency (PISA) in Somalia officially summoned me, where I was questioned about my work. I openly answered all the questions asked, in the presence of Chairman Mohamed Dek Abdalla and Director Jaabir Said Ciise.
I consider this summons to be part of the ongoing pressure that the Puntland government has been exerting on me since January 2025. In addition I have received calls and threatening messages from some members of the security forces and other government officials, which appear to be attempts to intimidate me and push me either to leave the country or remain silent. I state clearly that this will never happen.
I want to make it clear that the summons and surveillance by the Puntland security agency will not make my work retaliatory or slow me down. I report what is happening, and I know that the truth is not always something that pleases a particular person or group.
I sincerely thank the Puntland Journalists Association (MAP), NUSOJ, human rights organizations, the Radio Ergo team, journalists in Puntland, and the United Nations office in Somalia for reaching out to me and showing remarkable support and solidarity.
I call on all press freedom organizations, human rights defenders, and the international community to closely monitor the pressure and threats faced by independent journalists in Puntland.
@MAP_Puntland strongly condemns the unlawful questioning of member @MohamudNadif by PISA in Bosaso. This baseless act—carried out with no legal grounds—is a blatant attempt to intimidate and silence the press. Shameful and unacceptable. We stand firmly with Nadiif. #PressFreedom
