Wasn't expecting to stumble across a climate protest Christmas tree in Sheffield Cathedral🎄
A mock Christmas gift from the fossil fuel industry to the church, highlighting that parts of the Church of England invest in non-renewable energy. 💚
“The Church of England has… helped protect Shell’s image as a legitimate partner in climate action, rather than helping expose them as a deceitful, violent, and corrupt operation” https://t.co/9Kao9LcDny
We are glad to include the tree decorated by @CcaSheffield in our Christmas Tree Festival, after a bit of initial confusion.
We won’t always get things right, but we’re working hard to listen and take our part in treading more lightly on the earth.
So thank you, and we look forward to the Church’s continuing support!
Your friends at Shell x x x
PS Remember not to do anything silly like STOP FOSSIL FUEL INVESTMENTS NOW.
Pps definitely don't join @CClimateAction

🎄UPDATE🎄
✨Tree reinstated ✨
After initial confusion, we are happy to say @sheffcath are glad to include our tree, supporting the need for urgent and just climate action.
Thanks to @sheffcath!
Please visit the tree festival open from tonight to Sun https://t.co/uZxlsYib9L

Sadly this gesture of gratitude and goodwill has not been accepted and has been removed from the festival by Sheffield Cathedral.
Not suitable for the public 🎄💔😢
