The Ceasefire Initiative is a small, simple idea to begin the process of ending the war on drugs. We advocate polite & courteous, civil disobedience.

These are not radical ideas. The radical idea is that we haven't stopped it all from happening already.

Let’s stop calling it “decriminalisation”, and call it something far more emotive: A Ceasefire.

We need to end all hostilities in the “war against people who use drugs”. We need to stop arresting people for personal possession. We need a ceasefire!

They could release all non-violent drug offenders. That would clear many cells. Non-violent drug users shouldn’t be a part of the criminal justice system anyway.

Possession of small amounts of drugs for personal use should not be part of this initiative. Concentrate on potential violence, & don’t overstep that remit.

If the govt wishes to lower that number, they could…

Release all non-violent prisoners serving sentences for drug offences. It would be so easy, & would bring that number way down instantly.

Be tough on real crimes. Drug possession isn’t a crime, & shouldn’t be criminalised.
