Everyone remembers what happened when Google tried to give San Francisco free citywide Internet in 2005 or when Mark Zuckerberg gave $75 million to SF General Hospital in 2015 after his wife did her residency there.
The man broke the law and had a school that taught slaves to read. He “owned” the slaves nobody wanted, those who couldn’t work, whom he afforded a sort of retirement. There’s been a stained glass window in a black church for 125 years in his honor.
In 2014 I got hired by a top Germany company because of my excellent interview performance, long work history, and top 1% standing on coding competition sites
130k EUR salary + 30k EUR signing bonus
German government rejected my visa because I didn't have a high school diploma
Anger over hostile architecture is such a funny thing to me.
“Can you believe companies and landlords want to keep away unproductive vagrants and teen near-do-wells?”
Yeah man, obviously.
An easily recognizable trait is how kind one is to others, staff, service workers, etc. A pattern of openly demeaning individuals in embarrassing fashion just bc you feel you’re in an authoritative position to do so, is a sign of disdain, lack of respect for ppl generally, and ultimately a reflection of that individual truly viewing ppl as beneath them or insignificant. Disgusting character trait.
It is baffling to me that people consider Lindsay Clancy as ‘getting away with it’ if she isn’t convicted of murder. She’s going to spend years if not the rest of her life in hospital. She has been profoundly mentally ill. She is paralysed. She is not getting away with anything.
My sad prediction is that, when millennials are old, the common line will be “well boomers screwed us over, so at least we should get our bag in retirement” and the cycle will just repeat.
They interviewed a Sicilian woman in a 1978 documentary Love in Italy after the advent of the birth control pill. The woman had 14 abortions in secret and birthed 11 kids, with 2 stillborns.
She said she'd take 10 birth control pills a day if she could to stop being pregnant
I remember my friend cancelling on me last minute so I gave the Starbucks matcha I got her to this Mexican lady janitor who mopped elevator floors in my building and she said: “I have never tried Starbucks before”. She was really touched and as then a daily Starbucks girl I was quietly shocked. It became a little ritual to get her a new drink when I saw her and let her rate them.
I would add janitors, hotel cleaning stuff, maintenance guys, and anyone who make our lives little bit easier to the list. Giving always comes back🫶🏼
I've just never understood this dynamic. I get that women are protecting their hearts and playing value games with how they believe male psychology works when they make the husband material guy wait but it's causing a lot of guys to counter with "fine, you give me nothing, then I'll give you nothing. If you're not willing to offer me sex, (in some cases, ever), then I won't offer you courtship and I'll only go for women who will offer me sex upfront, then I'll discard them."
The "husband material guy must wait for sex" tactic just doesn't seem to end well. And really, (unless you're dating within a non promiscuous community) it's a losing strategy. It's senseless gaming when you could just actually follow your heart and act upon your attraction to a man you really desire.
Contrary to popular female opinion, most men don't discount a woman for LTR's if she has sex with him early. But they will discount a woman who has sex with everyone but him. Because why wouldn't he?
Experience has taught me not to celebrate until I’m at least three months into the job. Being in the wrong work environment is worse than unemployment.
If Clancy was in a state of “insanity” (postpartum psychosis) when she murdered her three children and now she’s fully able to understand what horrible acts she committed (you have to be fully competent to stand trial), why is she so aggressively fighting taking responsibility? I know she has a Constitutional right to. I get that. However, she could have just pled guilty at the beginning of this case. She’s a mom. Her children are gone. She now knows she is the one who murdered them.
For me, my children are my life. Wouldn’t any loving parent just say - “I did it. I’m responsible. I’m so, so sorry. Whatever punishment the state needs to do, do it.”
If jumping off a second story house was because she realized what she did was wrong and she wanted to end it, why are we going through this trial now? Did she just quickly change her mind? Did she say - kids are gone, now life is still worth living, let’s fight this in trial?
Why would any mom who now knows she murdered her children want people cheering her on as she drives to court?
What loving parent who murders their child actually wants “mercy?”
These aren’t questions a prosecutor is allowed to ask the jury, but as a Dad, I ask them in my head on every one of my cases.
Bad people sometimes just do bad things. Most who kill their children aren’t in the best mental state to begin with. But they know killing their child is wrong. Every parent, no matter how messed up, knows this.
Her observation about why women didn’t resent her the way they did with some other beautiful women was so astute. Damn she was so smart and thoughtful.
The attitude from this server is why it's to hard to get rid of tips. They're making $300 or more a shift, acting like they're massively underpaid. No one in hospitality makes more than servers/bartenders, even a decent chunk of management positions make less
I mean, no one can FORCE him to pay for his fiancée’s fathers heart surgery, but I get the feeling they may not get married if he just lets the guy die…
No joke this is the reason I was such an awful teenager bc I made mean quippy jokes to all of my friends and eventually they were like hey you’re just not a nice person anymore and I thought well that doesn’t happen on tv
