Happy heavenly 40th to Sam Kavanagh - those colors winning at @SthsideRacing tonight.

It’s my dear friend Sam Kavanagh’s 40th birthday today and a horse that he and Kelly bred won in his colours. If that’s not a sign from above that he’s absolutely launched at 20-1, I don’t know what is 🥹❤️
How good are Terry McAuliffe and John Kelton - knowledge, enthusiasm, insight - intelligent questions of interviewees who are given the chance to answer. Great asset for SA racing and @racing

The Kick team are exhausted from a huge Cup responding to tens of thousands of misinformation posts and comments across social platforms over the last week.
So it was great for our spirits to get this lovely voice memo reminding us why it’s so needed ☺️
Buckaroo finished last in the G1 Melbourne Cup, but he’s back in his stall looking comfortable.
Stewards have reported he had an episode of EIPH - blood from the lungs that can show at the nostrils. It’s uncommon, seen across high-intensity equine sports, and horses typically recover well.

It is always particularly noticeable on #MelbourneCup day as the antis appear with their unfounded nonsense, but @KickUpForRacing in Australia really do a superb job in presenting unemotional factual rebuttals to the provocative rubbish spouted against horse racing. 👏👏👏
Veterinary Information: 04-11-2025 Flemington R7 - A post race examination by the raceday veterinary team found that Half Yours had sustained a minor laceration to the inside of its left cheek. The horse is fine and no veterinary treatment was required.
3AW's Tom Elliott responds to #NupToTheCup protestors at Flemington: "Every day we kills thousands of cattle and sheep and pigs. If you're going to protest against animals dying... surely you'd go and stand in front of an abattoir every day of the week"
It’s always interesting to see people suddenly speaking out against the cruelty of horse racing on Melbourne Cup Day.
What I struggle with, though, is that the same compassion often doesn’t extend beyond the Melbourne Cup. The same people who call veganism “extreme” are suddenly vocal about animal suffering when it’s convenient or trending...or maybe just because horses are better looking than pigs and cows?
If you care about animals being exploited for entertainment, it’s worth asking where else that same logic might apply, because cruelty isn’t just a once-a-year issue.
Update on Melbourne Cup winner @RVStewards
R7 Vets - A post race examination by the raceday veterinary team found that Half Yours had sustained a minor laceration to the inside of its left cheek. The horse is fine and no veterinary treatment was required.
You’re entitled to your opinion, but that doesn’t reflect the reality inside racing. The vast majority of people in the industry dedicate their lives to the care and wellbeing of thoroughbreds, working to world-class welfare standards every day. Suggesting that horses are used cruelly is a real disservice to the thousands who pour their hearts into keeping them safe, healthy, and happy.
