ICC Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang met with Senegal’s MFA, H.E. Cheikh Niang. They discussed international criminal justice and strengthening cooperation between the Court and African States, including Senegal, at a time when the #ICC is facing significant pressure.

⚖️ Belgium condemns all sanctions targeting the International Criminal Court, its officials and those cooperating with it. The measures undermine the Court’s independence and impartiality and weaken the global fight against impunity. The #ICC must be free to fulfil its mandate without intimidation or political pressure. This is not about defending national sovereignty. On the contrary, sovereignty also carries the responsibility to abide by the fundamental principles of international law.

Belgium will always stand with the victims in their pursuit of justice. We also stand in solidarity with the Court’s staff and the many civil society organisations working tirelessly to advance accountability, and will continue to do its part, including by advocating for the activation of the Blocking Statute.
