Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office announces recent arrests made by VPSO.

Karl Lee Brewton, age 65, of Anacoco, was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of a Schedule II Narcotic. Bond has not been set and Brewton remains in the VPSO jail.

Jeffery Ray Lee, age 58, of #Anacoco, was arrested and charged with one count of Theft and one count of Theft of a Firearm. Bond has not been set and Lee remains in the VPSO jail.

James Thomas Sheppard, age 34, of #Leesville, was arrested on two outstanding Bench Warrants. Bond has not been set and Sheppard remains in the VPSO jail.

Brooklyn Raine Perkins, age 26, of Anacoco, was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant from Sabine Parish. Perkins was transferred to Sabine Parish.

Deja Davon Turner, age 30, of Leesville, was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant. Bond has not been set and Turner remains in the VPSO jail.

Thomas Alex Occhiline, age 48, of #Leesville, was arrested and charged with two counts of Theft and two counts of Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Bond has not been set and Occhiline remains in the VPSO jail.

Thomas Paul Smith, age 53, of Anacoco, was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of a Firearm or Carrying of a Concealed Weapon by a Felon. Bond has not been set and Smith remains in the VPSO jail.

Financial Report: Mrs. Ford stated that for the Diversion Canal Division totals for May showed revenues of $566,469.96, expenses of $312,629.68 leaving a profit of $253,840.28 with year-to-date total revenues $6,973,310.67, expenses $3,871,469 leaving a profit of $3,101,841.53.

She stated that the Toledo Bend Division revenues for May were $1,594,634.37, expenses were $931,412.09 showing a profit of $663,222.28 with year-to-date total revenues $12,524,221.04, expenses $10,414,931.49 leaving a profit of $2,109,289.55.

Mr. Jeane moved, seconded by Mrs. Cupit to approve stareports as circulated and presented. Motion carried unanimously.

Pleasant Hill Woman Killed in Sabine Parish Crash

Sabine Parish – On August 26, 2025, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash at the intersection of Progress Church Road and WPA Road. This crash claimed the life of 28-year-old Victoria Grantham of Pleasant Hill.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2025 Kia Seltos, driven by Grantham, was traveling south on WPA Road. For reasons still under investigation, Grantham failed to stop at the intersection, which caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and sequentially impact a tree.

Grantham, who was not restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on-scene. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis.

Meta is sinking $10 billion into rural Louisiana to build the home of its wildest AI aspirations, setting the template for the nation’s grid buildout

The Louisiana Energy Users Group—including Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and Shell—said the project increases Entergy’s Louisiana energy demand by 30%, creating unprecedented financial risks to existing utility ratepayers.

A recent report from the U.S. Department of Energy estimates data centers’ grid needs could triple by 2028, consuming up to 12% of the nation’s electricity.

With the state bypassing the standard, lengthier review process, Lewis questions whether Entergy and Meta need extra turbines. “Why are we only focusing, quite frankly, on generation buildup?” he wondered, rather than grid efficiency and flexibility. He warned of Meta potentially walking away early, leaving ratepayers stuck with excess costs.

Louisiana, for instance, exempted the Meta deal from sales taxes.
