This is the studio of Italian artist and publisher Ezio Gribaudo in Turin, designed in 1974 by architect Andrea Bruno. Its most famous feature is the sinuous wooden staircase, where the spaces between the steps double as shelves for books, artworks, and archive material.
Gribaudo worked in this studio from 1976 until 2022, surrounded by the books, prints, objects, and artworks that shaped his creative world.
Spotted in the NYC subway. “Zero screen time.” An iPod Shuffle ad in 2026.
When we built the iPod, the goal was the technology disappeared and you could have your music wherever you were. 1,000 songs in your pocket.
Now we’re living through a moment where people are actively looking for ways to disconnect from the infinite feed, algos, and constant notifications. That doesn’t mean technology is bad. It means the best technology understands when to step back.
Not every problem needs another screen, another menu, or another layer of complexity. Constraints create freedom (read: @DavidEpstein new book Inside the Box). And often removing features creates a better product than adding them.
The future of technology shouldn’t just be more engagement. It should help us be more human.

A Coffee House in Istanbul, 1889...
The first coffee house/shop in the world (Kiva Han) is said to have appeared in Ottoman Istanbul back in 1475 AD during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror.
During 17th Century, coffeehouses became a common sight in every Ottoman city, and some villages even boasted their own. A 17th Century Ottoman travel writer, Evliya Çelebi, vividly described coffeehouses in major cities, some of which could accommodate up to 1,000 customers at once.
By early 18th Century, Europeans had successfully introduced coffee plants, which were smuggled out of Ethiopia, to their colonies in the Caribbean Sea. By the end of the century, coffee beans from the Americas began to replace those from Yemen, even in the Ottoman Empire's markets.

Plants do actually move: we just don't live in the same time reference frame.
This 2-day time lapse shows the so called plants' nastic movements, mostly due to changes in turgor or changes in growth

Sweden is committing more than €100 million to a sweeping classroom overhaul: replacing tablets and screens with traditional printed textbooks to help reverse falling student performance and sharpen focus.
After more than a decade of embracing digital-first education, Swedish authorities are now pivoting back to paper-based learning. Official data and recent studies cited by the Ministry of Education show that prolonged screen use in class has been linked to shorter attention spans, weaker reading comprehension, and reduced critical-thinking abilities.
Research consistently finds that reading on illuminated screens requires greater mental effort and invites more distractions compared to the calm, linear experience of physical books—factors believed to have contributed to declining academic outcomes in recent years.
Under the new plan, every student will receive printed textbooks for all core subjects, restoring books as the central learning tool. Digital devices and online resources will remain available as supportive tools, but they will no longer dominate daily instruction.
This bold €100+ million investment signals Sweden’s leadership in rethinking the role of technology in education. It underscores a broader, growing recognition worldwide: while screens provide speed and access, the hands-on, distraction-free engagement of physical books supports deeper concentration, stronger memory retention, and more effective long-term learning.
By choosing paper over pixels, Sweden is charting a path toward a more balanced, evidence-informed classroom future—one that puts proven pedagogical principles ahead of unchecked digital trends.

🇪🇺 Why Is Climate Risk Analysis Important?
Climate change brings increasing risks, including extreme heat, intense rainfall and drought. Understanding where and how these risks may occur is essential for effective planning.
Climate risk analysis uses spatial data, modelling and scenario assessments to identify vulnerable areas and prioritise interventions. This evidence-based approach supports infrastructure planning, urban design and long-term resilience strategies.
Through strengthened institutional capacity and data-driven planning, climate risk assessments contribute to more sustainable and adaptive cities.
Climate protection is not only a target — it is a structured planning process.

🏙 How Does the Urban Heat Island Effect Form?
The urban heat island effect is a microclimate phenomenon in which temperatures in city centres are higher than in surrounding rural areas.
Dense construction, heat-retaining materials such as concrete and asphalt, limited green spaces and restricted air circulation are the main contributing factors. Heat absorbed during the day is gradually released at night, preventing temperatures from dropping.
Rising temperatures increase energy demand, cooling needs and the risk of heat stress.
Mitigating the urban heat island effect requires shading strategies, permeable surfaces and strengthened green infrastructure.
