This is so accurate. I always tell clients the basics of sleep hygiene but also make it clear that one size does not fit all, and for them they may need distraction techniques such as podcasts, or calming music. Which is completely fine.
Yup, "sleep hygiene" recommends turning off our electronics, and sleeping in a dark, quiet room.
But "sleep hygiene" doesn't count on our racing thoughts or nighttime triggers that can be WAY more activating than a smartphone screen or a podcast playing to soothe & distract us.
