@Tectone Young birds are fearless. There are a lot of people with chickens in my neighborhood and sometimes a young one will get out (or was tossed out) and they'll come pecking on our door.
@philthatremains The Wifi thing is just modern Van Eck phreaking which has been a concept since WW2 and demonstrated in the 50s during the Korean War with the first published paper explaining the concept in 1985 (by Van Eck of course).
@SantaDecides As far as an actual novel, it was probably the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. My aunt that was living in Missouri that was from Chicago like the rest of my extended family got it an illustrated version for me in second grade and I read it in 3rd grade. This was in the mid 80s.
