.@ClientEarth's case against @Shell may have failed, but "it's only a matter of time before directors are held personally liable for not doing enough to manage climate risk" This will be a HUGE tipping point in terms of corporate accountability. https://t.co/O6Xpum4ida
🚨 "Where are the women?"
👀 Rooms full of men are making decisions about our future.
And history shows… that’s not working.

🚨 Shocking but true: Climate data is vanishing from U.S. government sites.
📉 No data means farmers, investors, and businesses can’t plan for climate risks.

As president of #CostaRica@CFigueres' father José Figueres Ferrer abolished Costa Rica’s military and put the money into education & nature. Today, his green legacy is at risk.
🎙 In our latest episode we reflect on his vision & the fight ahead https://t.co/O6Xpum4ida
🚨 "No government in 40 years has done this much damage to Costa Rica’s environmental legacy."
Former President @luisguillermosr warns that #CostaRica is at new risk of fracking and fossil fuel drilling.

Research shows that we base our perception of ‘normal weather’ on what we’ve experienced in the last 2-8 years. So we forget what was ‘normal’ before that period and keep resetting our baseline of normal. We all know what happened to that frog.

🚨 "INSANE. IRRATIONAL. GREEDY. HEARTBREAKING"
@CFigueres' reaction to Trump’s 33 executive orders gutting climate action.
The question is: What now?
This week we explore the new frontlines for climate action.
❓ How are YOU fighting the climate fight?

Are we ready for the migration crisis ahead? 👇
🔥 Big Oil is keeping the world hooked on fossil fuels.
The Global South was ready for renewables. Then, fossil fuel lobbyists flooded in -pushing gas over clean energy.
This week on Outrage + Optimism:
🌍 Is Big Oil sabotaging the energy transition? 👇 https://t.co/SphaLwFs5V
In 2015 @CFigueres didn’t hold back in negotiations but today's news that January was the warmest on record is another stark reminder that the #ParisAgreement isn't fully working.
This week we ask why it hasn't delivered the transformation we need.

I used to think that it was our collective responsibility to guarantee to future generations that they would have a perfect world.
Especially now that I am a recent grandmother, I look back and see how wrong I was. We cannot guarantee to future generations that they’re going to have a perfect world. We simply cannot.
So, what can we do? We can do our darndest. We can wake up every morning and make a choice: ‘Where am I going to direct my energy today?'
I spoke about this, about what it means to be optimistic and why it’s an active choiced on the @MongabayOrg podcast recently 🙏

What welcome news: the Rosebank oil field has been ruled unlawful and its approval has been overturned in the UK. This is nothing less than a triumph of courage over complacency, of people over profit, of the future over the past: a bright light in these dark times.
To all the people who have worked on this - who woke up every day and chose, decisively, to keep going, no matter what obstacles appeared in the way.
To all the people who pushed past the daily doubt and fear and grief, and transformed those feelings into fuel for action.
To all the people who have contributed to this victory in myriad different ways, big and small, seen and unseen, we owe a deep bow of gratitude.
This victory is more than a legal decision. It offers hope that the world may yet break free from the tyranny of fossil fuels and reap the benefits of an economy powered by clean, affordable, everlasting energy. It’s proof yet again that the energy transition is not just possible, it’s inevitable.
The science is clear: no more fossil fuels if we want to stay within a 1.5C limit for a liveable future. More acutely, the economics are clear: renewables already easily outcompete fossil fuels on cost, emissions, and efficiency. Renewable energy is the cleanest, cheapest, and fastest way to drive economic development, energy security and to lower working people’s bills.
The shift to renewables doesn’t have to - and must not be allowed to - come at the expense of workers and communities that have relied on the fossil fuel industry for generations. What we need now is investment in a just transition, which supports workers in moving into, and taking lead roles in clean energy industries. This is where the most exciting jobs and innovation are. And that’s why clean energy technologies are already attracting twice as much capital investment today as fossil fuels.
The fight is not over yet. The UK government will have the chance to remake the decision after their oil & gas consultation concludes this spring. But let this decision send an unmistakable message: oil & gas companies are on the back foot. They will keep trying to cling onto the past, but the people who helped secure this decision on Rosebank today are standing strong in the present moment. They have their eyes wide open, fixed on the future - and it’s extremely exciting.
My deep admiration and respect for the hard work of @laurensunfl0wer@tessakhan and Julia Hashimoto. You and your fellow activists have made history. You have changed what is possible. And we are just getting started!

Many of us are dealing with the pain and grief of seeing that which we love disappearing before our eyes. And how much more frustrating it is to see so much good work undone in the blink of an eye, or in the flourish of a pen.
It is all too easy to sink into de-motivation in this fight for the common good - especially when we feel the responsibility to bequeath a safer planet to future generations.
So how do we transform that pain, grief and frustration into positive action, rather than letting it become a weight that prevents action? As my teacher Zen Buddhist Master Thích Nhất Hạnh used to say, “No mud, no lotus”, meaning that we can compost those feelings - we can allow them to become the soil that nourishes our interactions, intentionally using them to create the world we wish to see.
In fact, those feelings can allow us to access the depths of our hearts and so are the very thing that enables the courageous action we need now.
