'Spider-Man' Beats 'Avengers: Endgame' as 'Brand New Day' Climbs to $360 Million, the Biggest Opening Weekend in Box Office History https://t.co/J3hVtGXRuO
This time last year, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said that releasing movies in theaters was "an outmoded idea for most people" and that consumers wanted "to watch movies at home."
Today, movie theaters have scored their biggest weekend of all time at the global box office.
BOX OFFICE: The box office race is hanging by a web! #BrandNewDay scores $355M domestic, $927M worldwide. That is..
- Only $2M shy of the all-time record set by #AvengersEndgame (domestic).
- The best ever opening for a #SpiderMan movie, a solo superhero movie and for Sony Pictures.
- The 2nd biggest opening ever for a film, domestically and worldwide.
- Only the 2nd film in history to cross $300M (dom) and $900 (ww) opening weekend.
- The best ever opening for Zendaya and director Destin Daniel Cretton.
- The 2nd best opening for Tom Holland behind #AvengersEndgame.
$355M—the 2nd-biggest domestic debut of all time.
Sony's SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY landed just behind AVENGERS: ENDGAME’s $357M record—and nearly $95M above NO WAY HOME.
Your friendly neighborhood box office bestie.
Now, let's see what happens Monday...
NEW: With a record $434M in the United States and Canada, this was the highest grossing weekend in domestic box office history, thanks primarily to #SpiderMan and #TheOdyssey.
We are on pace for at least 5 films to cross $1B at the global box office this year, which would be only the third time in the past 10 years where that happened.
THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR lookin' real good. Nice to see Michael B. Jordan behind the camera again, this time with Bradford Young (Arrival). I thought this was going to be straight for streaming. Happy I was wrong!
First trailer for ‘THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR’, directed by & starring Michael B. Jordan.
The film follows a billionaire who steals priceless artworks while falling in love with the woman investigating him.
In theaters on March 5, 2027.
The sales are not slowing down at all, the only thing that can contain it is capacity and @odysseymovie running hot. Looks like @SpiderManMovie will go well above $300m opening and a massive, historic, record-breaking weekend is upon us that will only last until Dec. 18th, 2026.
The only official way to see the 1.43 IMAX 70MM sequences in THE DARK KNIGHT at home are on the special edition HD Blu-ray set.
This is also a good demonstration of how drastic the change is from 2.39 to 1.43 on a home setup.
