On the tragic day of October 27, the Kashmiri people were deprived of their freedom, sovereignty, and national identity through coercion and high-handedness. The international community must fulfill its pledge of the right to self-determination made to the Kashmiri people.

Sustainable policy requires democratic legitimacy. Political disputes must be resolved through dialogue. Political parties share a key responsibility to maintain stability and make summary dismissal of a heavy- mandated government a deeply complex and consequential matter.
