🇷🇴 Cristela Georgescu says Romania feels more oppressive to her today than it did before communism fell.
Not because the old system was freer. Because back then, she says, nobody pretended it was.
“You knew you were not allowed to talk against it.”
What disturbs her now is the contradiction: people are told they are free to speak and challenge the system, while she believes political dissent is punished underneath that democratic surface.
“Today we are told, ‘You’re free.’”
For someone who actually remembers Romania before 1989, that distinction is what frightens her most.
Not open dictatorship.
A system that still calls itself free while, in her view, behaving increasingly like one.

🇷🇴 The man Romania elected to be their President was arrested, and now his wife, mother of two kids, is fighting for her husband’s release.
Less than 2 years ago, Călin Georgescu won the Romanian Presidential election by a wide margin, with zero marketing, no backing by the establishment, just the popular vote of the Romanian vote.
The establishment went into crisis mode, trying to figure out what to do next. Their solution?
They cancelled the entire election, barred him from running again, created what looks like bogus charges against him, and jailed him.
This is in ROMANIA, a member of the EU that considers itself a democracy
To give you an idea of who Călin is, the first interview we did together was in his small living room, which is connected to his kitchen. No fancy palace, no security, just a humble family home with his wife and 2 young kids.
The second time I interviewed Călin was remotely when he was first arrested. He warned me back then that the establishment will keep going after him until he’s in jail, and he was right.
It’s the same playbook playing over and over again. ‘They’ did the same thing to Trump, they failed. ‘They’ did it to President Bolsonaro, and it is failing as we speak. And now ‘they’ are doing it to Călin Georgescu.
And if the world does nothing, ‘they’ will keep doing it. As former EU Commissioner Thierry Breton blatantly said in an interview: “We did it in Romania, and we will obviously have to do it if it is necessary in Germany.”
The Fmr EU Commissioner blatantly telling the world that the same thing they did in Romania they will repeat in other EU countries.
I spoke with Cristela Georgescu about the latest in the case against Călin, how their children watched their father being HANDCUFFED, and how her family is being FOLLOWED and their privacy VIOLATED.
And after my conversation with her, one question stands out:
What happens when a country continues to hold elections, calls itself a DEMOCRACY, and promises its citizens FREEDOM... but those challenging the authorities believe those very promises are being used to conceal their persecution?
That's the warning Cristela Georgescu wants the world to hear.

Quick update. I was speaking today in the European Parliament about why democracy matters and the need to be ready for snap elections. Romania featured heavily and I was delighted to be with friends from across Europe. @ecrgroup@ECRparty
🚨Bucharest Court just ruled:
Călin Georgescu - under house arrest.
Still an abuse of power, but a victory for the protests 🇷🇴 - a small victory for the Romanian people!
FREEDOM!

Călin Georgescu sends a message to supporters around the world from prison:
Thank you! Although I cannot see you, some I hear, and others I feel.
And, every day, overwhelmed by your love, I return it a thousandfold.
Every voice that reaches me, every good thought and every prayer coming from afar tell me that neither distance nor walls can separate people united in this work.
And we all know that, as great as the work is, so great are the trials.
I know that for many of you, love of country and the courage to defend your beliefs have come with punishment.
Nothing you experience is foreign to me, and nothing you endure is indifferent to me.
Our country is indeed going through difficult times, of great trial.
Let us all pray to God, with deep humility, for its good.
Our faith is perfected through trials and patience.
In the light of truth, sooner or later, the lie will burn itself out.
Do only good, avoid evil, seek peace and pursue it.
With love, never enough of it, we, all alongside one another and all of us with God!
🚨🇷🇴 A Romanian court has ordered Georgescu moved from JAIL to house arrest, but prosecutors are already preparing to challenge the decision.
The Bucharest Tribunal ruled TODAY that Georgescu's pretrial detention should be replaced with 30 days of house arrest.
Anti-organized-crime prosecutors plan to appeal, meaning Georgescu's release from jail is far from guaranteed.
And there's a precedent: the same judge previously refused to jail him in September, only for a higher court to overturn that decision.
For now, the ruling is neither final nor a guarantee that he will leave detention....

🇵🇱🤝🇷🇴 SOLIDARNI Z RUMUNAMI!
📸 Fotorelacja z dzisiejszej pikiety solidarności z narodem rumuńskim!
Uczestnicy zgromadzenia wyrazili swoje poparcie dla wolności słowa i praw obywatelskich.
Dziękujemy wszystkim za obecność i zaangażowanie!
🇵🇱🤝🇷🇴 Polacy i Rumuni – solidarni w obronie wolności!
W Rumunii unieważniono wybory wygrane w I turze przez Călina Georgescu, a potem wykluczono go z kandydowania. To otwiera drzwi do bolszewickiego totalniactwa. Pytamy więc, jakim prawem ingeruje w wybory?
🚨 SPAIN, ROMANIA, HUNGARY AND THE FUTURE OF EUROPE
I sat down with Spanish political scientist and journalist Sergio Velasco for an extensive discussion about the political changes unfolding across Europe.
We examine Spain's forthcoming elections, the housing and immigration crises, developments in Hungary and Germany, and Sergio's personal experience reporting from Romania during the annulment of its presidential election.
We also explore the growing role of independent journalism, freedom of expression and the future of European institutions.
An important conversation with someone who has travelled extensively across Europe and witnessed major political developments first-hand.

🚨🇷🇴 It's Day 13, and many Romanians are STILL out on the streets supporting the man they consider their legitimate president, Călin Georgescu.
You won't see this in the mainstream media, but the Romanians are still fighting!!! ✊
