Proud father and proud citizen, passionate about education. "Things are not as bad as Republicans would have you believe, but worse than Democrats will admit."
The first threat to American liberty they cite is well stated: "A K-12 school system that fails to educate half of its students to even minimal standards yet is controlled by unions that refuse to reform." #edreform#education
The nation has faced many stress tests over the decades. Yet the Constitution’s guardrails have largely held, and the principles of the Declaration of 1776 endure.

This is one of five major problems with public education: too many initiatives. And in curriculum, too many learning objectives (US schools try to teach significantly more than high-achieving countries. #education#edreform#milewideandaninchdeep
Many schools suffer from “strategic diffusion.”
They have:
12 priorities
37 initiatives
50-page plans
dozens of metrics
countless meetings
Yet nobody can answer:
“What outcome matters most?”
Focus on the word ‘outcome,’ it’s not ‘outcomes.’ Singular dogmatic focus.

Good job, Yale: "'The top priority in admissions decisions should be academic achievement,' the authors write, and they recommend that Yale 'reduce preferences for special classes of applicants.'" #education#edreform#yale

WATCH: The United States of America is the superpower of the world because of the filibuster — not in spite of it. It makes it harder to pass legislation, and it makes it even harder to get rid of legislation. That’s because it makes both sides work together, and it gives the minority a voice in the legislative process.
To my friends in the Senate — it’s time to stand up and pledge your support for the Senate as our Founding Fathers intended it to be. If we lose the filibuster, we lose the soul of the Senate, and we risk losing our status as the standard-bearer for democracies around the world.

EDITORIAL: The looming SF teachers’ strike — & quibbling over basic budget facts — have distracted from resolving the incredibly complex & deep-seated issues facing SFUSD that stand to affect teachers, kids & the community far more than one raise cycle can.https://t.co/T22YTLdDwb
Such a failure of leadership on both sides. Trump and Noem should have ICE focus on going after the bad guys and make sure ICE doesn't trample on civil rights. Walz, Ellison, and Moriarty should be working with the Feds to turn over the bad guys, not encouraging anarchy.
A functioning Congress would have hearings and this gentleman and the officer he’s talking about would both be testifying under oath along with the ICE officers involved with the incident. If you care about ICE’s credibility, you’d want an investigation. Because the allegation is chilling
Its a simple reality: "The presence of a misbehaving peer causes other students to act out, dilutes instruction and drives down achievement for other students." #education#edreform

"The average will be higher at these great schools, and certainly the bottom quartile will be higher. But if you look at the tippy-top of Harvard and the top of the University of Minnesota, they will be at least as good. Maybe better"
AI can be powerful in some settings, but this MIT study does not surprise me when it comes to using AI in the classroom (and to some degree when using it in the workforce): "...AI usage decreases cognitive function like critical thinking." #education#ai#edtech
To each their own, but I've often thought this makes sense. Families are more fulfilling than work. And careers don't advance as fast in your 20. Then one has more time as kids get a little older. And ages 50+ are the most productive, work-wise. So establish that family early!
"The average homicide suspect has been arrested ELEVEN times prior to them committing a homicide. That is a problem. That is a problem!"
"WE NEED TO KEEP VIOLENT PEOPLE IN JAIL"

So disappointing. There are probably 30 things that could make our education system better but lets start with a more focused curriculum, better discipline/safer schools for teachers and students, and getting rid of automatic tenure #education#edreform#educationforall
American high-school seniors’ scores on major math and reading tests fell to their lowest levels on record, according to the U.S. Education Department https://t.co/ARapPckzAd
Is this too obvious and too simple to be a good idea? Or should we instead hope that by allowing AI, it better prepares students for the world they will inherit? Lets ask educators, not just tech companies. #education

This is a big deal - one of many "reforms" that has a very positive impact for teachers who want to teach, and more importantly for student learning and development #edreform
Classroom misbehavior has surged since the Covid lockdowns, and some states are responding with changes that will benefit teachers and students.
