14.3 #GNED1411 3. I have already applied what I've learned through this program. After the social media and education portion I got mad at myself everytime I would catch myself on my phone during class. I noticed instantly how much it helps.
14.3 #GNED1411 2. The three most important things I learned in this course are
- The impact on social media in the class room and how distracting it can be (wish I learned this earlier)
- Different ideas of the possibilites of the future of social media
- Update your privacy!!!
14.3 #GNED1411 1.The most surprising thing I learned in this course, was also the first thing learned in this course when learning about USENET. I thought the beginning of texting and social media was recent, so I was shocked when i found out it dated back to 1978
@JanC_DC Good point, I think youtube is often looked passed as a legitimate source of news/information and that’s not right. I use twitter as my second source for information in some classes after my notes from the teacher, even before my textbook #GNED1411
#GNED1411 14.2 To add onto my point of live streamings growth, video game streaming site @Twitch is a website that has recently exploded with users. At peak hours there can be over 200,000 viewers on some streams.
#GNED1411 14.2 I think live streaming is a social media technology that will be growing in the future at the same rate it is now. Just within the last year and a half, Facebook and Instagram both have added live feed features that are commonly used.
I think the privacy settings will be a large change surrounding different social media platforms in the future. Account verifcation is something else I could see being more strict in the future. #gned1411 14.1
#GNED1411 13.3 I can say first hand social media is a distraction in the classroom, there are times where I need to put my phone in my bag because I get distracted by twitter or a group message on Facebook
13.2 #GNED1411 Games within the class room like kahoot help class mates compete with each other which inevitably makes them engaged in what’s going on, which definitely enhances learning in the classroom
13.1 #GNED1411 I can easily say I needed YouTube to pass my current math course, channels like CYmath helped describe math to me better than a teacher did.
A benefit of social media use in education is it let’s all students communicate opinions and class material with eachother, even with individuals who are not in the class. #gned1411
@ashleycjcruz Definitely, I can say this first hand I get distracted incredibly easily by twitter in class. I can imagine it being even worse for people younger than I am
#GNED1411 11.2 The popular @Netflix series Blue Mountain State used crowd funding by starting a go fund me to gather money for the production of a movie, and it worked !
#GNED1411 I have contributed to participatory economy by using applications like @Kijiji to buy and sell the majority of my belongings when the time comes 11.1
#GNED1411 I think social media shaped the presidential election by showing a lot of people president trumps true colours when old tweets were brought back to life, or even with some of the tweets trump had during the election. It also became almost a trend to hate on trump 10.3
