California — Statewide: Restaurants cannot automatically provide plastic straws (must be requested by customer, 2019). Many cities (e.g., San Francisco, Malibu) have stricter full bans.

New York — Statewide “request-only” for plastic straws; New York City has additional restrictions.

Other states with request-only or similar limits: Oregon, Washington, Vermont, Maine, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Delaware.

Washington, D.C. — Full ban on providing plastic straws in restaurants (exceptions for disabilities).

Many other cities like Miami Beach, FL; various in California, Colorado have local bans or restrictions.

Canada

Nationwide prohibition on single-use plastic straws, cutlery, stir sticks, etc.

European Union

EU-wide ban on single-use plastic straws, plates, cutlery, and more (phased in since 2021 across member states).
Other Countries / Regions

United Kingdom — England banned plastic straws, stirrers, and cotton buds (2023).

Australia — Multiple states (Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, etc.) have bans or phase-outs.

Japan — Major chains (Starbucks, McDonald’s) phased out plastic straws nationwide.

All this means nothing with places like India doing what they do

We do not live like this in America. I spent all day at my local beach today, I didn’t see a single piece of garbage because we don’t litter. And, if we do see any kind of trash on our beach, WE pick it up. We never leave it. Our beaches are beautiful & pristine.

There is no magic soil. A country is made up of its people & their culture.
