A complete stranger waved me into his driveway today.
A warm-hearted Greek-Sicilian Christian man welcomed me, asked about Jewish life in town, introduced me to his nonverbal son, and then we went our separate ways.
No reason. Just a few minutes of genuine human connection.
I've knocked on this door before, but today it finally opened.
We had a brief chat about what it's like being Jewish in a small Southern town—challenging at times, but resilient.
Hopefully next time we'll have a little longer to talk.
At a Torah class in Pickens County, someone looked up and said:
‘Where was this in my youth?’
Maybe you can’t go back and rewrite the past…
But you can change the meaning of today.
And sometimes, one Torah class can change everything.
This is a most difficult conversation because both the rabbi and the constituent must be respectful and considerate of the emotional journey that such a discussion entails.
