@KitPeacock Agreed, it can and does exist. The problem is that the benefits system encourages it, and encourages people to overstate their issues.
I would prefer a two pronged approach, massive benefit cuts and plough that money into schools and education. Invest in the future
@KitPeacock Not a single choice, but a series of bad choices. You just don't know what is in other peoples heads, and with such a large carrot people may be deciding to do whatever they can to get the free money
@THemingford It isnt a bonus, it is theft from the working class to give to the benefits class. No one begrudges genuine need, but that isn't the uk benefits system. A system built around work has a viable future, a system built around benefits is doomed to collapse
@gabystubbs1@THemingford Of course they ham it up. If it is the difference between lots of money and benefits, or very little, why wouldn't they? The rapidly rising number of claimants says it all
@gabystubbs1@THemingford Unfortunately it is not just the rich paying, it is also the poor and middle income people paying.
There is a whole spectrum of the disorders you mentioned, but the system expects them to ham up their issues to get more benefit. Very very few need support, but many want it
@crewedave1@THemingford It is a lot of made up rubbish. Who knows what they are factoring into the calculations. Perhaps rent, council tax based on some justification that they need a bigger property
@gabystubbs1@THemingford Everyone has issues, the taxpayer cannot keep handing over money for nothing to improve people's lifestyles. A lifetime subsidy isnt reasonable
@shawncbrown@returningfromt2 Or just forget these ridiculous changes that you are proposing and build a lot more houses. It really isn't that difficult. Force universities to teach the trades to all children, plumbing, electrical etc as part of their degrees. Create new towns along existing train lines
@Dr_K_Farnsworth@Helen_Whately No vat is not a subsidy. Children in private school are saving the taxpayer money. The private school fee paying parents are subsiding the state!!
Your view seems to be that all money belongs to the state, and anything they let you keep is a subsidy.
@SDP76842783@GayTory If by everyone, you mean that most people are a net drain on the public purse. Where many people dont pay any income tax, just a bit of VAT here and there.
@SteveLawrence_ Those people sending their children to private school are not their target voters. Therefore the labour backbench have no issue and will do nothing about this.
