In 2007, a thief walked into a car showroom in Penang, Malaysia wearing nice clothes and carrying a chequebook. He asked for the keys to a $280,000 Porsche. Then he drove it straight through the glass doors and sped away. His joyride was short-lived, however, as the car quickly ran out of fuel and had to be abandoned nearby.
According to NBC News, the thief kept the keys and later returned with fuel. By that time, the Porsche had already been impounded at the police station. In a shocking twist, he managed to drive the car out of the station, stealing it for the second time in a single day.
The incident became infamous not only for the audacity of the theft but also for the embarrassment it caused the police. The idea that someone could steal the same car twice, including from a police station, made the story go viral and cemented it as one of Malaysiaโs most bizarre crime tales.
