We can't control what happens, but we can choose our response. Join us for Meaningful May and focus on the things that matter. Thanks to @actionhappiness for these fantastic ideas! #MeaningfulMay
This month @actionhappiness are encouraging us to carry out small acts of kindness over the festive season. It's often the little things that make a BIG difference! Why not start by sharing this calendar with others? #DoGoodDecember
”Just 1 Bad Decision Away From Homelessness: A Story of How Mark Became Homeless in Chester”
Just a few years ago, Mark (name changed for privacy) was a top sales professional at a leading computer software company in the North East of England. To outsiders, his life appeared perfect – a respected career, a loving family, and a promising future. But behind the scenes, a mistake sent his world spiralling out of control.
Mark had an affair. When his wife discovered it, the weight of shame and regret was overwhelming. Struggling to cope, he turned to alcohol to numb the pain of the shame he felt. What began as an escape quickly became a vice that tightened its grip, alienating him from his loved ones and shattering what little remained of his stability.
Within a month, Mark was living out of his car, using service stations to wash up before heading to work, desperately clinging to the remnants of his old life. But one fateful night, it all came crashing down. The police tapped on his car window and subsequently breathalysed him. He was over the legal driving limit. He lost his licence, and soon after, his job too. In just two months, the life he once knew was gone.
With nowhere to turn, Mark came to Chester on the train – a place filled with memories of happier times spent with his wife and children. It was a fragile attempt to find solace amidst the chaos of his life. But he soon found himself sleeping in the doorway of a bank, haunted by regret and facing an uncertain future. Without a local connection in Cheshire West, there was no requirement for the local authority to provide housing for him.
That’s when SHARE stepped in. One of our volunteers found Mark in the doorway late one night and offered him what he desperately needed: warmth, food, and most importantly to Mark, a listening ear at our ShareShop the next morning. From there, he began to rebuild. With support, Mark found a landlord willing to accept a deposit from SHARE and was able to move off the streets into his new home. He started piecing his life back together, step by step.
Stories like Mark’s remind us that anyone can fall, but with kindness, compassion, and support, anyone can rise again. Your donations make this possible. Help us be there for more people like Mark. Please visit https://t.co/Cspb2Wo8Z8 to donate. Together, we can provide hope and a light at the end of what can be a long and dark tunnel.
