Thoughts on public education in North Carolina by Justin Parmenter

[Derek W. Black @DerekWBlack]

Project 2025’s education vision is “either highly ignorant of or highly dismissive of a 200-year commitment to public education w/ the understanding that democracy itself rests upon it. You’ve really got to worry about how America moves forward” w/o pub ed https://t.co/LjPnDJd1ZU

We’re just 3 months away from Election Day! Together, we’ve built a strong grassroots campaign that is ready to win and create a safer, stronger North Carolina.

Our public schools — especially in rural areas — are underfunded. As Governor, I will work across the aisle to ensure schools and educators have the resources they need for our students to thrive.

The application is NOW OPEN for the North Carolina Equity Fellowship‼️

The objective of the Fellowship is to develop leaders equipped to reverse the trends of racial inequity by turning thoughts into action

.@MarkRobinsonNC and his wife operated a child care center that endangered children and was unsanitary. If this is how he cared for children, how can we trust him to care for our state?

[Sen. Jay Chaudhuri @jay_chaudhuri]

With all due respect Senator, as the first Indian American State Senator in North Carolina history, Kamala Harris is both black and Indian.

[Mo Green for NC @MoGreenforNC]

"There is a stark difference between the two of us. I have nothing against someone who homeschools their children, but I believe in our public schools as opposed to someone who calls them socialist and indoctrination centers."

For Teacher Appreciation Week, here’s NC Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson calling public school employees “wicked people” & saying nobody should send their kids to public schools.

This teacher would appreciate if folks turn out in Nov to ensure he isn’t our next governor. 🍎 #nced #ncpol

For Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10:

Chocolate and Starbucks cards are great, but please consider reaching back in time to a teacher who made a difference in your life. Tell them what you appreciate/d about them specifically, how they helped you and what you’re doing now…

Legislators pushing vouchers have not only subverted state constitutions but the people’s will: “73% of participants [nationally] said funds should go to public schools,” not private schools. Even a majority of higher income republicans oppose vouchers. 1/ https://t.co/u52KRZSUwz

Michele Morrow, Republican running to lead NC's diverse k-12 schools, says "Islam is evil," Muslims should be banned from elected office https://t.co/i7I2NM97Fi via @ChalkboardNotes #ncpol #nced

[Justin Parmenter @JustinParmenter]

DPI’s Tom Tomberlin says the 42% increase in North Carolina teachers quitting in 2023 over 2022 is “interesting.”

“Interesting”?? All the adjectives available and he’s going with “interesting”?? No. It’s heartbreaking but a completely predictable outcome. #nced #ncpol

[Justin Parmenter @JustinParmenter]

Hey Michele, reasonable ask: Since you're trying to make "CRT" relevant to your campaign to lead NC's K-12 schools, could you please define it for voters?

What does CRT mean for you? #nced #ncpol

[Justin Parmenter @JustinParmenter]

Whoops! Morrow neglected to mention this response is only from individuals who believe "the public education system is going in the wrong direction" (i.e. primarily Republicans) #ncpol #nced

[Governor Josh Stein @NC_Governor]

More than 8 out of 10 school-aged children in North Carolina attend public schools. Investing in public education means investing in the future of North Carolina.
