The Community Safety and Legal Affairs Committee is holding a public hearing and public briefing at Queensland Parliament next week for the Respect at Work and Other Matters Amendment Bill 2024.
From July 2024, coercive control is a criminal offence in NSW. That means it is illegal for a person to use abusive behaviours towards a current or former intimate partner with the intention to coerce or control them.

The way we speak about violence matters.
The language we use can reinforce the attitudes and beliefs that drive violence against women, or it can challenge them.
Yesterday I joined @RNDrive to discuss our new research examining 235 sentencing judgments of men convicted for killing their female intimate partners.
We discussed the findings, including that 65% of offenders had a prior criminal conviction & more than a third had a prior conviction for domestic violence.
