Also, young kratos IS an optional cosmetic. Kratos is the only person who acknowledges this appearance in self reflection but the main story is built around Kratos looking like this

Thing is that I actually agree, the stylization of his muscles makes the white skin and the bright red tattoos fit in well with the original

But reboot's Kratos isn't designed for the original tattoos. Its designed for an aged body and the faded marks reflect that.
