Always try for success, but both success and "failure" will help you for future rounds. The more times you upgrade, the better prepared you'll be at making the big swings after 100s of looks.
Think big, start small, move fast.
1. Go after big things. Go after the biggest market you can see, and just as importantly, understand how your bets connect together that give you the right to go after these bigger opportunities.
3. Move fast. It's not just about doing more with less time. It's also choosing what not to do, what you can do in parallel, and then ultimately, how you can do things differently given your new toolkit.
You'll also find that in the pieces, you'll get the data to turn it into something even bigger and better. You'll also find what's common, and where you can compound over time. The more you do, the faster you'll go, and eventually what was previously big will now seem small.
2. Get started now with something small. If you see 10 different options, you will die old with indecision. When you try something new, you will find that your big vision will shatter.
They also require turning out garbage, so after 100 rounds of garbage, you can pick out the garbage from the gold. This allows you to go from weeks (ICs) to companies (quarters) to boards (years) to countries (decades) to dynasties (centuries).
As you go up, you earn the right to think bigger, but those big ideas don't come from day 1. They require learning as much as you, from as many different sources as possible.

In this thread, I'll walk you through the P/E Ratio.
Why do some companies trade at 5x earnings and others trade at 50x earnings?
When I first started investing, this was hard for me to understand.
So, let me break it down for you.
"First time VPs can really scale if they are systems thinkers.
They can learn the rest, but great first time VPs keep building better and better systems."

1/ A decade ago, one of my best friends took over his family's electrical business and worked 6 days a week to grow the company. He recently achieved a generational wealth level exit.
He told me a story once that helped me understand how his family achieved such success.
Since reading this 6 months ago, I've come to think it's half a dozen of the best paragraphs I've ever read on how to get much, much better at anything: (by @autotrnslucence )
We’ve closed 3 deals in the last 8 months.
All off-market.
We have a few more under LOI that all came about off-market. (we have 100% close-rate if a deal goes to LOI).
I’ve been asked a lot about how we finance and structure deals.

We're all strapped for time.
So how does @girdley have the time (and energy) to:
• Oversee 9 businesses from software to coffee
• Kick a$$ at Crossfit 5 days/week
• Grow his Twitter following to >95k
• Make relentless Chili's jokes?
I asked him. Here's what I learned.👇

In this thread, we'll analyze the "Devil's Card Game".
This is a super useful thought exercise. It can teach us several key concepts in economics, probability, betting, hedging, investor/market psychology, etc.
