@KimWatt95843629 In keeping people from using the internet we fail to expose them to other ways of thinking which can handicap societies in extremely detrimental ideas. No new ways of thinking means no social progression.
@KimWatt95843629 Wow Kim, this is a very thoughtful question. I do think that access to knowledge is a basic human right therefore I think that access to the internet is a basic human right. I think a lot of times we take for granted the liberties in which we have and the internet is one of them.
@Juliann88099775 Hey Julianna, I agree that the language was disturbing. This points to a larger issue which is that our society is comfortable with being in control over women’s bodies. A woman dresses for no one but herself. I find it ironic that this same interest is not shown in what men wear
How do we decide what is protected under freedom of speech verses what is not? In monitoring freedom of speech do we undermine its overall function? How do we allow individuals to express themselves but also be held accountable? #OnLineSafety
Edited: I personally think that it is hard to constitute violence as our culture, and the current climate, has made it difficult to define. When we have individuals in positions of power that dismiss violence and harassment as "locker room talk", it become difficult to address.

Edited: Over 60% is an astounding number. If 60% of us have personally witnessed some form of online harassment why is this not a larger issue? Have we become numb to such violence? Or perhaps we are unaware what constitutes harassment?

Edited: Are the online spaces in which we communicate our ideas gendered, and if so how does that in turn affect the way in which our messages are perceived and if they are accepted?

I saw that the hashtag #ImAlwaysApologizingFor is trending. This hashtag is extremely relevant to the discussion of gender and gender related issues. As men and women we are constantly apologizing for “being too emotional” and apologizing for our thoughts and feelings. #MeToo
What individual and collective contributions can we make to ensure the internet is a safer place? What actions and behaviors have you witnessed that have been exemplary and you will incorporate in your own life? #MeToo#WORKING#CHANGE
@V_Etienne_V This is such an important distinction. I don't think that people always realize how central the discussion of language is to change. As you note in your anecdote, language can change intent and purpose. Great post and insight!
@Juliann88099775 Wow Julianna, that is amazing! I hope that it goes well! It is so powerful that you are owning who you are and celebrating your relationship! I think you bring up an important question when you ask why we seem to care so much about outside perceptions. It is definitely important
"Around four-in-ten U.S. adults (41%) have experienced some form of online harassment, and an even larger share – 66% – have seen this happen to others".

@V_Etienne_V Powerful assessment.! I think this is something we all struggle with in this day and age. How can we hold ourselves and others accountable without overstepping boundaries . At times it can be hard to constitute what should be protected under freedom of speech and what shouldn't.
@V_Etienne_V I definitely feel a greater sense of freedom with this account. I have found that it is easier for me to express my thoughts and concerns, especially those that are political, with this account due to my worry at how it would be perceived otherwise.
Furthermore, would such a move (the move to require one to use their real identity online) hinder social progress as fewer people would be willing to openly discuss difficult topics? #socialmedia#SocialMediaManagement#socialmediawarrior
@V_Etienne_V I totally agree! I think that we have become so desensitized to such violence that it is hard to identify. If we do stand up and say something people often are critical and label us as dramatic or unable to take a joke.
