When I started revealing more about the characters, it became obvious that many weren’t interested in understanding them at all; they just wanted their preferred archetypes. And partly that was my fault as I watered them down exponentially from the original concept.

Budget was never an issue, ultimately what held the project back was the lack of connections and interest. Most people focused on the surface idea of “a male Love Live/Ensemble Stars–type group” rather than the actual concept of an anti-idol alternative group.
